bellina (Norton Line)
Wallbrunn x Ponkan
2nd flowering and much better than the first. 1 flower and two buds (behind flower) on one spike. Green-tipped lateral sepal and petals. Fragrance is lovely. Vigorous grower. http://i165.photobucket.com/albums/u...ine_063012.jpg http://i165.photobucket.com/albums/u...e_2_063012.jpg ------------------------ |
Wow. That is spectacular. One of the best I've ever seen.

That's ridiculous. People shouldn't be allowed to post pictures of blooms that are that beautiful. Seriously, now all of my Phals are ashamed of themselves. I'll be lucky to get ANY blooms out of them, now that they have seen your Bellina.

Absolutely stunning! that's a definite calendar entry!
Fabulous!
Wow! Great color and shape Pete!
Gorgeous! Stunning photo!
It's positively delicious!!!!!
Gorgeous, love this orchid. Hoping to get flowers from mine soon if the spike keeps growing.
Stunning! I have this same bellina from the Nortons. I hope mine survives the mystery Phal crud that has taken out half of my Phal collection.
Where do you get norton bred plants?
I got mine from the Nortons. Their business is called Orchidview. You will have to email Katherine for a recent list of what's for sale.
Agree with Terri, but beware. It only takes one email to go quickly into debt...
Lol I know what you mean I bought two plants this week I really should not have bought!! Orchids are my crack! Hahaha
Beautiful! That's a perfect flower.
That is an excellent bellina. So hard to find them with the green on them.

I have a phal. bellina 'Ponkan' x Richella's being shipped to me on Monday from Hawaii. I live in NOSPRING (still winter here) extreme NE ND. However, I keep the humidity up around 50% in our entire home and temp at a constant 70F. Any special advice or tips that you would like to pass on on growing your bellina? I hope yours is still doing fine, because I think you have the very best looking orchid that I have ever seen. Thanks, Greg.

Bellina and violacea are both warm-hot growers. 70 degrees will keep them alive but I'm not sure they will thrive. You might try growing them on a heated seedling mat.
yep - I noticed an immediate difference when switching to a heating mat. I have eggcrate over the mat, then the pots.
Any violacea/bellina grex appreciates extra warmth too...... |
breathtaking photo of a lovely, lovely flower.
Shoot, that's a real beaut!
Is it fragrant? -J |
Yes it is extremely fragrant.

bellina advise
Thank you so much. I have an old flat insulated heating pad with 3 temps and thermostat that I use for seeding and seedlings-- it will be perfect! Again, congrats on your phal-- simply magnificent. The one that I ordered will probably have a bit more red in the purple, but same idea (I think). The seller states that color can change somewhat with each new blooming. I am excited to have found it. I only hope that it will approach the beauty of yours. Thanks, Greg.
