Miltoniopsis NoId in S/H
2 Attachment(s)
I've never been successfull with Miltoniopsis. The first one I had died (or should I say I killed her) allmost inmediately. This one, the second I buy, went in the same direction. I had allways been wanting to try S/H since I read about it in this forum, so I finaly decided the time had come to give it a try. I chose the plant that was "nearest to death" just in case. It happened to be this miltoniopsis. Look what I discovered a few days ago (tomorrow it will be two weeks since I put her into S/H).

Congrats! Looking good!

Today I was refilling the reservoir and I saw she's also growing a new bulb.
I'll keep you posted. |
Looking good. I think Camille said she grows these in S/H as well. The new growth is good as often with this type the roots will die off when first moving to S/H and you need new roots coming on to replace then. A new growth will have new roots

WOW! Well done! I look forward to seeing how you do.
|
Congrats! If that is the plant nearest to death in your collection, I am envious :) I see you have a little bloom spike! Can't wait to see the blooms.
|
Well done! Is that a bloom spike I see? Yay for you!
|
a new growth and a spike....that is exciting....

As every Saturday I was watering my plants again and... Surprise! There's another new growth peeping out between the outer leafs of the old bulb.

Yea! You will likely have multiple flowers spikes some time in the future!
|
Looking good! :) As Rosie said, I grow mine in S/H as well. Mine was also near death when I transfered it in the fall, and it put out 8 growths right after. 6 of them were stunted little things that grew tiny little bulbs, but the other 2 are big and healthy.
|
Woo-hoo! Looking good! I also have a very positive results with the near-death Milt. in s/h. So far, that's the only way i can grow them. Yours is surely recovering nicely!
|
Same here, it's the only way for me to grow them. Killed 5-6 before...

Don't know if it's the heat we're having right now, but she seems to have stopped. There hasn't been any change the last few days.
This picture was taken almost a week ago and the buds haven't changed. There's no sign they're about to open. http://img.tapatalk.com/bc56b2be-f2f7-2913.jpg |

This is how they look today. I think there is some change (though very small).

:goodluck: I hope they continue to develop. The stem on it still looks healthy. I've had the odd bud blast but not often.
|
One of the buds fell off. The other one is opening but it looks a bit dry. I guess old roots are dying and not enough new roots yet. Will post picture when it opens more.
|
Finally the bud that was left, opened just a bit. It wouldn't open completely, so I cut the spike and let the plant concentrate on growing new roots and the growing of the two new pseudobulbs. If she manages to adapt to SH she'll give me flowers when time comes.
|
How is this plant doing? I have killed more Miltoniopsis orchids than I care to admit and would love to try again in S/H. I'm curious to see if she's started any new growth since you cut the spike.

The only way I was ever able to bloom mine was to put it in 70% humidity. If I took it out of that for any but a short bit of time, the blossoms suffered.
