Can anyone I.D. this cute little bifoliate Catt. hybrid?

Lip is actually a vivid violet/fuchsia color.
Thanks all! |
I don't know what it is but it sure is cute!

Very cute, reminds me of C. Tropical Pointer Cheetah.

That's a beautiful one!! Is it fragrant? Sorry I'm useless name wise.
|
Like Joann said, it does look a little like C. Tropical Pointer 'Cheetah'. There's no way to know for sure. Mini-catts are all the rage right now and many breeders are coming up with new crosses every day. It seems like many of them are bifolates. Your orchid is beautiful. Good growing.

i concur...it looks like lc tropical pointer 'cheetah' but there is no way to be sure.....its a gorgeous noid....good growing and gl!!

Thanks everyone - I know it's a longshot on I.D.s This one lost it's tag :p
It does look rather like the Tropical Pointer (I had "Tropical" or "jungle" in my head for this) - When I searched that hybrid I discovered a 'Spot' or 'Spots' cultivar that really looks like this one. So, I'll mark it No ID, possibly Tropical Pointer. It really is a cutie! And just as cute with or without a name. Nice to see mini-catts being popular - I'm getting more into them now - tho I guess my few others are more 'compact' than minis mostly, but smaller is even better! No fragrance detected so far. Thanks for the help everyone! |
Sonya, you might have been thinking of Cattleya Jungle Eyes. Both Jungle Eyes and Tropical Pointer can vary quite a bit in appearance. But the red line in the center of the lip only seems to appear in C. Tropical Pointer so I think that's more likely what you have.

It sure looks like Tropical Pointer from the Orchid Wiz photos.
|
Thanks tucker and silken! I do believe that's the one!

Cattleya amethystoglossa var. coerulea is a good match. Try looking for that on google. Yours has a little more yellow in the petals though. But the spots and lip color are a good match. I like it. Love the color and it looks healthy. Is this the first flower you've had?

I'm a sucker for any cattleya but this is nice. Very pastel. Reading further I see where it is probably something else. Don't know if amathystaglossa breeding is here. That is a large plant and flower and this is a mini or compact. Beautiful.
|
It's a beautiful little plant but it is not C. amethystoglossa. That species is a large plant and usually blooms with a head of many flowers. I read online that this species can get almost 3 feet tall and can have 20 flowers on one inflorescence. Here is a link to info and pics of C. amethystoglossa. Orchids of Brazil. Brazilian orchids You have a cute little plant though whether it has a name or not!
|
thanks - yeah I like it very much. The fragrance, which I did not notice/detect earlier is very nice! And the blooms are cute and cheerful!
|
Hi Wynne Dee, yes I read further and sqaw how large Camyth is. I originally was looking at the flowers in my book. I hadn't read the text. Certainly not C amyth.
