Doritaenopsis Purple Gem
Just found this little beauty in a local grocery store! Its a primary hybrid between Doritis pulcherrimum and Phalaenopsis equestris. The flowers are small but such a vibrant colour!

Oh Todd, that's very pretty. The color is fantastic, and I love the looks of anything with equestris in it. Good find! :)
|
I believe Hauserman Orchids has this one also.
 Very nice! :) |
Oh those are awesome! I love the color! Super find there for sure!
|
great colours! I can see why doritis is used in breeding now
|
Nice find!! Wish I had local grocery stores like that! That colour is a knock-out. Spectacular plant.
|
Beautiful & rich coloring - nice pick up Todd
|
Nice find Todd!! I know I've seen this before in grocery stores, but always unlabelled. NExt time I will pay closer attention.
|
Nice stuff Todd - Glows in the dark!

Hausermann's does carry this. I just got one last week. Mine has a spike with buds, but not quite ready to open yet.
Solana (Who is banning herself from making any more trips to Hausermann's for at least a month or so...even though it's only 40 minutes away and SOOOO tempting!) |
Here it is!
Check it out here at Hauserman

Dorothy,
Just checked. Actually, mine is the 'Amethyst' LOL! Does that mean I have to go back to Hausermann's for the other one now? Solana |
Dorothy,
Is that Phal violacea ('Tequila Sunset x var 'Borneo') in your avatar? If so, I just picked that up at Hausermann's too. LOL! Solana |
You may just have to get the other
My avatar is Phal. violacea 'Tequila Sunset' x Phal. violacea 'Tequila Sunset' I do have the 'Tequila Sunset x var. Borneo' and the major difference is that the lip and lower sepals of TS x var. B is a much deeper purple than TS x TS - my TS x var. B is in bud and I will post photos once it has bloomed :) Aaaaaaaaah! The fragrance! |
Oh ok. I actually picked up the Phal. violacea 'Tequila Sunset' x Phal. violacea 'Tequila Sunset' but put it back down. Since I have limited space, I'm trying to have as much variety in my little collection as possible (that is, while staying with phals, cattleyas and my few dendrobiums.) 'Tequila Sunset x var. Borneo' was on my wishlist already so I stuck with that one. Saw one in bloom while I was there and it smelled wonderful. I bought a little guy though so I've got a while to wait. Definitely post photos once yours blooms.

Going through my photos, I did find the one flower the plant came with. I was in bud when it arrived. The superior sepal never did open completely but you can see how dark the lip is.
Ok ok I know :hijacked: |
Yeah, we did hijack this thread. :) Very pretty!

I was just about to reprimand you two for hijacking! At least you admit it!
|
Hey Todd,
The hijack wasn't so bad. I have 'Amethyst' and also that violacea. They are my adopted babies, so they are like step-sisters now, making the topic somewhat related. |
 I know when I done wrong :blushing:
I just got carried away  :coverlaugh: |
I'll forgive you.....THIS TIME! :fight
|
Gee Thanks :blushing: ;)
|
Sorry Todd! You definitely got yourself a beauty there though!

My 'Amethyst' has started to bloom, so I wanted to post the pics so you could see the difference. Not sure how big yours is Todd, but this is a wee little one. Added the second pic so you could see the size in relation to 2 phals that are blooming right now. One of those phals is a mini. The other was in the mini section, but I believe it's just a young Phal Arctic Dawn.
