The new name for this plant.
From Brazil (AWZ orchids),not sure it deserves species status, looks very much like C.coccinea , with the exception of the yellow/red veined lip.
Nice plant nevertheless.

You have a beautiful flower. Unique in its own. I am sure it is as miniature as a coccinea but the flower form is totally different and the shade of red; your plant is darker red...if you look at the picture you will see the difference on the fuller round edge sepal of the coccinea that is like a fuller butterfly wing as the sepal of your flower that is pointed.
*my plant is in a 2" pot

Looks nice! Is this a cool grower too?

lepanthes89 04-10-2012 10:16 PM

Cool-intermediate.

Beautiful! I like the orange lip and the touch of orange in the rest of the flower.

Bud, your C. coccinea looks like a tetraploid to me, or at least some sort of special selection. Most unimproved or wild C. coccinea have narrower tepals and actually look more like this C. dichroma.

The plant you show here is a linebred coccinea, most probably 4N as well... Most Sophronitis coccinea in the wild are far from that form in your plant, looking more like little red spider, as the Sophronitis bicolor shown in this post...
