psychopsis papilio v.alba
http://oi43.tinypic.com/elcp5x.jpg
as mentioned before this is 1st time all 3 have opened at the same time. The larger flower is always 1st then drops off and the other 2 smaller flowers open about 2 weeks later. The larger one is just about done as his skirt is starting to shrivel. this pic was taken right after he opened and right at 2 weeks 3/17/12 .Started to open much sooner. http://oi39.tinypic.com/2pqtafs.jpg This plant won a ribbon last year in the OS and then I bought it a few months ago from the owner. So I cant take credit for getting it started, but Ive kept it going and now there my blooms  They only sold it I feel bec they had another one with 6 spikes!!! yikes thats some spikes!! |
How beautiful!!! Psychopsis are such great plants. Cool that they are all flowering at the same time!
|
I like the little bug faces ;)
|
I love psychopsis. I have one myself that is doing 'something', whether it is a new growth or a new spike time will tell but I hope to one day have as good a specimen as yours.

Ooh, very nice!
|
thanks you :) Im beginning to like them after I killed a few..I still fear oncidiums.
must conquer oncidiums soon :fight |
Gorgeous!
Don't be afraid of Oncidiums! I had my earliest orchid growing successes with Oncidium and Onc alliance intergenerics ;) |

the basis for the fear is I got a noid onc at the local grocery and it had bulb rot. bulb rot? huh uh. next thing I know bec of my bad watering habits long ago I had a rot fest on most of my plants that were close to it...I think that was the 1st time orchids actually broke me down into some big shark tears..Im still remember..:) ..
Yes I am the hypersensitive male you all speak of |

They say that you are an orchid pro once you've killed your weight in orchids. I think I'm nearly there!

Nice shape and color. Are you growing this plant mounted or potted?
|
Another great one. I've got some time before any of mine throw buds, but I'm hopeful given this. Great growing, credit or not!
|
thanks again :) its being grown in 33.33.33 mix..medium graded, 1/3 charcoal 1/3 fir bark and 1/3 sponge rocks. pretty standard..the other 1% I dont know what it is...;)
It needs re-potted but I got no new growths and they don't like being moved around. How I killed the last one. All I did was repot it and smack it crashed. I think its very important that when you re-pot anything with a bulb like these that are close to the mix, you GOT to keep the bulbs ABOVE the mix, Roots will push it up but dont bury the bulbs bec the plant is wiggly.Use clips or some anchor in the pot. Dont bury the bulbs and keep them above the mix. I dont think Im going to re-pot but use the adda- pot method next time and not try to remove so much of the old bark hanging off the roots... and yes the color is so much deeper yellow than others Ive seen.. It doesn't look faded out. |
