That's a pretty cool looking plant and flower spike, Heli. I know that schoenorchis orchids are fairly small, but could you tell us how big your plant is, please? Looks like it would fit in even the most overcrowded of collections. Good growing!

For being so small, I commend you on the photo! Great plant.

What a cutie. I have a Schoenorchis as well but mine has white flowers. I love the pink one!

I've just ordered Schoenorchis manipurensis (http://www.orchidspecies.com/schoenmanipuirensis.htm). Can you tell me what the conditions are like in your terrarium? Temp, light, humidity, etc.?

It seems that these plants can be fairly adaptable as far as temperature goes? Just wondering what you've been told?

One quote on culture that I could find states "Culture similar to that given equitant oncidiums, but cooler in winter, will allow S. fragrans to thrive." (This was when the Indian range in Manipur, India was considered to be a part of S. fragrans from Burma and Thailand.)

Thanks to all for your kind words:biggrin:

Shakkai
I'v got in my terra; high humidity and moderate lightning and ventilation. Temperature is between 20-25ºC during year.

I've got S. fragrans and S. pachyacris only few months, so I'm not sure if they are really growing well. S. fragrans is growing new pair of leaf though.

shakkai 09-17-2007 09:09 AM

Heli, A new pair of leaves sounds like it is enjoying the environment!

I've been doing some data collection myself on climate in Manipur, India vs. that in the fragrans range of Burma & Thailand. Manipur seems to be about 6C cooler than the records for Thailand. In India, plants are found in at 2450-3300 ft. (750-1000 m) - which accounts for it being quite a bit cooler, I think. I am hoping that mine will be happy with highs of 20-25C during the day, and 15-16C at night. Fingers crossed for me?

Many thanks for your advice. If you notice anything else with yours that may be helpful, I'd be interested to know about it!

Ludisia 09-18-2007 12:50 AM

Yes, I'll let you know:biggrin:
(keeping fingers crossed)
