Some blooming house plants

I grow these indoors next to my east facing window. The ID's are not 100% positive, but I hope they are right.

Hoya carnosa??
Currently two vines, 5 bunches in total. Smell very nice in the night time.

Second is what I think is Tillandsia ionantha. I got these from Sun rm.N.E. orchid board member.

Nice, looks like they love that window! I love Hoyas, they're one of my favorite plants.

Leafmite 02-04-2012 09:28 AM

Very nice! My hoya has yet to do more than grow on my other plants and try to root in their pots. I'm hoping to see blooms someday! I like the other, too. Very cool.

i love the Hoya flowers especially the way the light shows up the tiny hairs on the petals - or are they bracts?

Hedge, those are the petals. Beneath them are some very thin sepals. I don't see any bracts. The star shaped center is the corona, which includes the gynostegium (stigma and style and ovary and the anthers all attached to each other).

Here is a pic on the morphology of Aclepiads, except for the horns its basically the same for Hoyas.

I miss my hoya, it was my grandmothers and was a faithful bloomer with a wonderful scent. It somehow got lost in the move I guess. As for you're ionantha I think your right on the I.D. I wish Sun Room was still around, she gave me alot of great info and ideas.

Those hoyas remind me of Stelis blooms. They're pretty nifty!

I had a Hoya once... A seedling taken from the mother plant my mother inherited from her mother, in other words; a rather old Hoya (it must be 50-60 years old now).
It was pretty but it never bloomed for me (my mother's is almost always blooming to her great distress - she has got asthma so she's sensitive to intense fragrances).

So a blooming Hoya is strongly connected to my childhood memories, thanks for sharing. :blushing:
