How many orchids are in your collection?

How many orchids do you have in your collection right now?

Gage 01-10-2012 04:47 PM

About 50. I tried counting them last week when I brought them all in the house to protect from the cold, so I think it's right around 50.

Merlyn 01-10-2012 06:49 PM

168

FairyInTheFlowers 01-10-2012 08:12 PM

I have 60 unique orchids in my closet, but there is a few that I have multiples because I divided them, so the pot count is closer to 70.

bballr4567 01-10-2012 08:26 PM

Just two right now but two more are joining tomorrow!

That's how it starts. I'll bet if this poll runs again a year from now, your answer will be at least 50+.

Paul Mc 01-10-2012 09:45 PM

Over 80 and growing here, as the love continues!

I can only wish. The new two are christmas presents to myself.

We have a 1 bedroom apartment with very limited room so its tight already with the two I have and the large aloe plant as well.

When we get a house, I'll have an orchid/gaming room.

Oscarman 01-11-2012 12:27 AM

221 and counting. Currently working on an inventory.

RosieC 01-11-2012 07:43 AM

87 plants, probably some duplicates in there but mostly unique.

It's amazing how they all fit in as at this time of year only 3 are outside, and only about 15 in the greenhouse, the rest are all around the house. I look back at old photos of my living room and it looks really bare because I've got so used to having so many in there.

peeper 01-11-2012 08:32 PM

I think I have somewhere in the neighborhood of 100 and 115. I only have 1 or 2 duplicates, but I've tried very hard not to buy multiples of the same. Variety is the spice of life or something!

I need to re-count and I have 3 more coming, if I can get the seller to get back to me with a shipping total... *facepalm*

Gin 01-11-2012 10:33 PM

Maybe around 250 to 300 not really counted ..

zxyqu 01-11-2012 10:43 PM

I've got around 100, not counting those in compots. Just finished building a basement greenhouse to house them all over the winter.

Paul 01-12-2012 11:00 AM

I honestly have know clue. :dunno: I know I have well over 100 plants but some of those are cp's, cacti, etc. (Don't EVEN want to consider all the Drosera seedlings! )

Leafmite 01-12-2012 01:29 PM

I have a nice mix of orchids I really enjoy which include forty-one named original orchids, some duplicates, and some noIDs. Like many others, though, the orchids make up only a small part of the plant collection. One might say that our home has a predominating green theme.

Orchidbyte 01-12-2012 01:37 PM

I have over 600, about 400 in a 8'x6'x10' tall greenhouse, well over 200 mounted. Outdoors I have over 150 in pots or mounted, in house over 50 potted and mounted. As far as other plants well over 1000 different types in yard, in Pots in ground and hanging.

Yes i am addicted to plants, especially orchids.

I live in the Los Angeles area so we have mild winters, but I have seen outdoor orchids with frost and ice on them with no problems.i have a large over 100 bulbs L. Purpurata that is mounted and it has been outdoors here for over 10 years and seems to love it. I have seen that plant covered in ice with no problems.

NIVENJ 01-14-2012 02:17 PM

I've lost count over the last 5 years, and ohh well, the plants all, however many there are, always find a little nook to fit in snuggly.... and expansion is still going strong.....

Lorraine 01-17-2012 08:30 AM

Wow..I really thought I had about 250...not... I just did a trip outside and counted everyone because they are mounted in trees, hanging in the trees, on driftwood mount, on stands, in the garden, etc. I found 360...that didn't count the basket of anosonum keikeis I'm holding for a friend till they get bigger for her trees. one might just be joining the fun anyway...

I thought this WAS Orchids Anonymous! I guess there's a fine line between therapy and addiction?

RedOrchid 01-20-2012 08:17 PM

I think you just gave me permission to get more orchids. Your poll went by 20s until you got to 100. I have about 130, so I am going to have to get some more to get to the next level. (Any excuse for another orchid!!!)

pheli 01-25-2012 10:55 PM

I have more than 300 orchids, maybe up to 350, including species and crosses. All of them are grown outdoors in my yard. Among my collection, there are more than 100 cattleya crosses.

ginnibug 02-09-2012 08:48 AM

I'm somewhere around 60.And I'm o.k. with that...for now. I have pulled up my big girl panties and realized that I have to make more room first before getting anymore. And I don't want to drive my husband crazy, or make the orchids a chore. ginnibug

My Collection

:hello

I would like to say Hi, to everyone, as I am a new member. I am looking for some swap meet, or orchid club to join.
I Just moved to CT, from Brooklyn, NY.
All my orchids survived the move....lol, and THEY ARE THRIVING!!!!

(I love J & L, btw.)

I would love to buy Schoenorchis, If anybody has.

That would put our collection way over x 3!!!

I am looking for a pink or bright yellow Cymbidium... I have been checking Trader Joes, they only have Brown at a fair price. I would take someones cutting or Divison at a fair price, Its for my Mom in law's Birthday on Sunday.

Hope to offer some of my great orchids at a swap!!!!

Be well E V E R Y O N E !!!

Lisa

RJSquirrel 02-23-2012 11:49 PM

Im down to around 75 or 80 some odd orchids. Yes down to 75 or 80 from about 100 over the summer..heat brought death to orchids in texas outdoors this past year.

Trimming them down even more bec I have decided that what actually grows for me and what I like are 2 different things many times.

Hi Lisa, and welcome to Orchid Board!
Have you tried
Home
or

?

seaj 02-25-2012 02:26 AM

I only have 3 right now , but I'm trying to get at least 8 more in the next two weeks. So far the shopping list doesn't have anything specific, but I want 3 paphs, 2 more oncidium types, and a variety of phals to get the collection going. After that, I will only reward myself with a new plant when I get something in the collection to rebloom. That's the plan at least.....

Bolero 03-19-2012 07:35 PM

Over 1500, I lost count. I need to do a new listing.

Wynn Dee13 03-20-2012 01:55 AM

I have 137 orchids and a compot of at least 20 C. nobilior seedlings on the way. And always more coming! You can never have enough orchids! :D

RosieC 03-20-2012 10:36 AM

Looks like my count has gone down since January :( Only 86 now. I've gained some, and lost some others.

Paul Mc 03-20-2012 12:49 PM

Mmmmmm, looks like mine has grown by over 10 despite a few recent deaths. Perhaps it's time to put on the restraints.... NAH!!!!!

NatalieS 03-20-2012 07:15 PM

I have to say, I'm completely gobsmacked by the number of plants some of you have.

NYCorchidman 03-21-2012 12:00 AM

70-80, and I live in a small place in a big city. I'm downsizing my collection as I want to grow other plants like herbs and annuals on my window.

I wish I lived in a semi tropic area and my yard would be filled with plants! lol

RJSquirrel 04-02-2012 12:15 AM

since its spring I added about 40 or 50, more like 60 but Im in denial. Cool growers mostly to go inside.they really arent seasonal for me but since its spring and some are trying to clean up the greenhouses :)

Im up to 223 now but I already voted

Lorraine 04-02-2012 08:33 AM

I already voted too....thought I had 250..NOT! I did a count right after voting ther were over 300. Then I was at our show here on Valentines Weekend . 3 more. Then Martin County Show, 3 more. I divided a Miltonia 4 more although 1 is going to a new home. This Saturday it's off to Flamingo Gardens. I'm meeting up with a trade of a bunch of D crumanatum keikis and that will bring me home a couple more. I give up...there seems to always be room for 1 more   On the bright side...my husband quit asking me if I have enough. I guess having unusual flowers blooming year round answers that question.

Daethen 04-02-2012 08:36 AM

I think I voted 100-199. Turns out I am over 225. Now just how did that happen????

Arenalbotanicalgarden 04-02-2012 09:23 AM

Hmmmmmmmmm. In pots ? 20-30 or so.
In the woods ? I can't count that high.

Oscarman 04-02-2012 01:09 PM

Wow, 221 on Jan 10, 2012, now 307. That's some serious shopping in a year considering we are buried in snow 6 month out of the year! ;)
