Wow. Nice growing. I love bulbos and this one is so different. It look so otherworldly. The bulbo that ate Cleveland!

How do you grow this little one?

Thanks for Sharing.

Not a terribly showy, but I like the "swoop" of the tails. :D

When there's a bunch of them it's still a very delicate, dainty display but much better. Especially when you can see how much redder the color really is !

Nice bloom, looks like it wants to fly away.

Wish I had room for more Bulbos. In my collection this would be a giant. Thanks for sharing.

These pix give a better perspective on how small my plant is and the size of the bloom.

Is that moss growth new? I mean, did you grow the moss too? If so, good work, and how did you do it?

Merlyn 01-05-2012 05:25 PM

It appeared a long time ago on some of my Bulbophyllums and has migrated onto almost all of them. Bulbs like a moist environment and so does moss. I have taken to transplanting a small bit of it to a newly potted plant and it does the rest from there !

Tindomul 01-05-2012 05:35 PM

Very nice, how do you keep the environment moist?

Merlyn 01-05-2012 06:29 PM

I use shallow containers like ZipLock and put holes in them. I put about 1" of leca in the bottom and the rest is New Zealand sphagnum. I have each one sitting in a saucer so that when I water or fertilize I leave about 1/2" in the saucer. They are under T8 fixtures (4 foot with 6 bulbs) for 12 hours/day and 15/day during DST. I use 20-10-20 urea free GrowMore about every other week at 1/2 tsp/gal. I have a ceiling fan and a humidifier on 24/7.

This bulbophyllum is so cute:)

That is awesome, Chryss...tiny beautiful flower...

@Tindo...I get some moss from the sidewalk in spring(sometimes scraped from old big trees on the street)...and transfer it to the media of the pot I want to have it grow in...in a couple of months it spreads all over(you need constant humidity and shaded sun) and the sun in New York is bright and stronger thru the window glass

My second tiny division has one spike that's ALMOST fully open ! I'll post the pix when it is.

Nice blooms ! I wanted to ask if you support your spikes or if they grow straight up like that ? Mine don't :( Is it me or does your flower have a bit of a striping ? Maybe just the light. Either way it's really nice.

Thanks, Mali,as dainty and hair thin as it is, it's one of the very few that I never have to stake the spikes on ! It's the light, as I don't detect any striping.

I have a pool cue made by Mali !!! I'd take a pix of the label but I had the whole thing turned down on a lath after sealing in the thread wrap grip that I hated and it took off the label as well as the painted on striping !!! It USED to be this horrible orange & black striping and I called it my Halloween stick !! Turning it down after the poly sealing took the surface only striping off as well as the label. But NOW it looks like a REAL pool cue !!! I learned a lot on it and have had it for 15 years and it's now the least expensive one of the three I own !!! Anyway, it's a MALI stick and I'm not sure if they're still making cues anymore.

OK, OK, it's MY thread so I went off subject !!! Here's the pix of my Mali stick ! Those empty spaces between the lines were this horribly faded orange and lime green !!! Horizontally and vertically, picture that and that's why it WAS my "Halloween" stick !!!! No more !!!

MAli 03-12-2012 11:54 PM

:rofl::rofl:

Nice stick ! Is that what you use to hold the flowers up ? JK

:backtotop

So does your flower eventually "curl" up?

Merlyn 03-13-2012 02:48 AM

Pool cue, stick, you know ? Billiards ? 8-ball, 9-ball, straight pool ? Nevermind !

Yeh, they curled up and died after 7 days.
