Phal Baldans Kaleidoscope

The first flower on my Baldans Kaleidoscope started to open last night and was fully open by this morning. The picture isn't great but you'll get the idea. :)

Very nice color...it would be a show of blooms when they all open

Kelo 11-25-2011 05:00 AM

Man, you're up early lol. ;) I know, very eager to see them all open.

Bud 11-25-2011 05:04 AM

Its black friday...everyone is up and about...the big stores opened at midnight for frenzied shopping

Kelo 11-25-2011 05:12 AM

Oh dear...I think I've done enough shopping for a while, of course, until next time lol.

The flower is very beautiful.

tucker85 11-25-2011 08:20 AM

That's a beautiful phal.. Good growing.

Kelo 11-25-2011 08:24 AM

Thank you all, I am very pleased with this one.

Daethen 11-25-2011 09:14 AM

I have this one also. It is actually a friend's, but it has been living here for 6 months now. When DO I get to claim them as my own?

Kelo 11-25-2011 09:39 AM

LOL Maybe now is the time. ;)

Kelo 11-25-2011 11:00 AM

Perhaps a better pic after the flower had settled down

one of my faves because it grows like a monster and mine always has 2 spikes, floriferous. Interesting that yours is flowering, mine still has the usual 2 spikes and I'd say still a month to go.

Kelo 11-25-2011 04:32 PM

I loved this one from the first time I saw it and it seems to be doing great with me. I have another four phals with spikes to look forward to too.

Kelo 12-13-2011 05:25 AM

All four flowers are now open and looking gorgeous! :D

the flowers look great.
I think I am going to stop predicting when mine will flower, except to say that it is branching which has never happened before.
Do you grow your under lights ? Mine is south-facing - gets at least 4 hrs of sun ( filtered as I am told by the experts that insulated windows block at least 50% UV )
I wonder why yours is flowering sooner than mine.

ronaldhanko 12-13-2011 08:32 AM

Beautiful - I've always had a soft spot for this kind of Phal.

Kelo 12-13-2011 08:39 AM

Thank you. Yes, it's grow under LED lighting but the spike started just before I got the light set up. The light is very bright indeed and has UV etc. I only use a flash because the LED light changes the colour of the flowers.

Looking real nice Kelo!

Kelo 12-13-2011 12:04 PM

Thank you. I adore this one. I'm hoping to get longer spikes with more flowers next time.

I have this hybrid as well. It's a strong grower. I've had mine for maybe 2-3 years now and it spikes easily. I'm being treated with two spikes this season. I find though mine is a strong grower and easy to spike, the spikes themselves take a pretty long time to get going. I grow mine under T8s and it gets beautiful mottled patterns on the new foliage that lasts pretty long-- older leaves lose this mottling.

As far as I can see this one of mine is a first timer like my Schillie. Kaleidoscope has succeeded better tho' lol.
