Vanda overkill?

Guys I have some orchids being shipped to me soon. And 5 of them are going to be vandas. Im going to be growing them outdoors under a shade cloth. I was thinking of growing them in a single PVC (so it doesn't rot) Vanda basket to have like a vanda clump or something.
Anyone have any thoughts on that?

shahrezsyed 11-11-2011 05:21 PM

And i forgot to mention!
Im going to have a vandal 'tree' as well. I've put a tree like wood formation in a large terra-cotta pot with cement for it.

That is fantastic that you can grow vandas outdoors...but since you live in a desert like environment...you will have to water them in the mornings and spritz them in the afternoon...your atmosphere will suck the moisture out of them...otherwise you can pot them in large coco chips or bark with lava rock, hydroton and charcoal but make a bed of coco husk on the basket ... arrange the roots and pour the media mix over the roots.
I may be wrong but I have the idea that you live in a desertlike environment...if i am wrong and you have heavy moisture in your atmosphere then you may have them bareroot in a PVC basket

@bud look at my signature. lol

WOW! Islamabad, Pakistan has a humidity of 94% today as I checked it on the world weather report...you can really grow orchids outdoors...in fact you can just stick them on one of the big trees and it will survive

That sure would be nice! I'm sure that your pvc clump will work fine. The only drawback could be that you won't be able to tell one from the other. It would be beautiful to have mixed coloured flowers, though. And a tree in your environment would be perfect. I tried one in Once but it was not practicable in a house.

shahrezsyed 11-12-2011 08:57 AM
