Jorge -

Very nice, all of my Habenarias have already finished blooming except for medioflexa which is in short spike. I love orchids that go dormant for the winter, less for me to do when the weather gets cold.

ohmygoodness! fabulous! :wtg:

Kimbubbley 09-20-2011 08:42 PM

Wow! Never seen one like that before.... SOOO beautiful... reminds me of freshwater fishing flies :) and gorgeous photos!! Thanks for sharing :)

sailortom2 09-20-2011 10:10 PM

Jorge V. 09-21-2011 05:32 AM

Thank you all for your comments

Sailortom2, you will really enjoy it!!

Tindomul 09-21-2011 10:36 AM

Thats amaizing! What a beauty, and the photos are unbelievable. You should enter them into the next calendar contest. I think Habenarias are underrepresented in the Orchid Board Calendars.

Jorge V. 09-21-2011 03:59 PM

Thank you very much Tindomul!!

I don't know how to enter them into the next calendar contest :(

Paul 09-21-2011 05:22 PM

*sigh* Those are lovely. :cloud9: Always have loved those. I've never tried growing them, however. I've known a number of very experienced orchid growers who have failed miserably with Habs. It's kind of scared me off.

Jorge, it's too late for the 2012 calendar but you can always hold on to the pic for submission for the 2013 calendar. That contest will take place next year. The rules for the 2012 calendar contest can be found here:

http://www.orchidboard.com/community...r-contest.html

The rules for next year's contest should be the same -- just a different deadline date in all likelihood.

Jorge V. 09-22-2011 02:49 PM

Paul, you must try them, who knows.....

And thanks for the information about the calendar!

sailortom2 09-22-2011 07:49 PM

I have buds showing on my first try...won't know if I did good till it dies back and see how many tubers I receive for my efforts.:D

Would anyone who has had success with these plants care to comment on SUMMER care. I got one of these from Seattle Orchids a couple of weeks ago. It was in bloom and there is another lead coming along. They told me about winter care but I am in need of info for the care until winter sets in. Thanks
Beverly A.

Here is a link to the culture sheet from Kew Gardens, I grow all of mine following these instructions and have never had a failure yet.

I was wondering if the filaments had green tips when first showing?

Jorge V. 10-03-2011 04:12 PM
