Going to Florida -- AOS photos

Hi all,

Would like to know, with so many Floridians here, if you all know of any interesting places in East coast Florida to visit. I will be going down there tomorrow, West Palm beach area. I will return next Sunday.

Thanks.

P.S., I hope you all have a great week!!

Here are a couple places. You would love both. You can take I95 to both. (Look out for our crazy drivers)

AOS on Jog Road, Delray Beach. They are also located in with the Morikami Park. (South of Atlantic Ave. West side of street). About 20 - 30 minutes from WPB. Take Atlantic Exit off 95 head West to Jog turn left (South)

The Butterfly World located on Sample Road just West of the turnpike. (Tradewinds Park)(Pompano Beach) Take Sample Rd Exit off 95 Head West. Not very far to just past the turnpike you can't miss it. Well marked. About 30-40 minutesfrom WPB.

I agree with Larraine...if you're gonna be in the WPB area, you should stop by the AOS and also check out the museum right next door (on the same property).

If you can possibly take a ride over to Homestead, you'll find many growers there. If you go, try to get a tour at RF Orchids...it's not to be missed! Simply stunning!!!

Why not look up Tony? He lives down there.

Thanks everyone!! I had no idea the AOS was right there. Is the headquarters?

cb977 07-26-2007 12:57 PM

Yes, it's the AOS Headquarters. I was there a few months ago and it was very nice to see :)

Here's a link to their site regarding visits there:

gixrj18 07-26-2007 04:55 PM

Can't go there this time of year without checking out South Beach!

Tindomul 08-06-2007 03:13 PM

Hi all,

Am back. Turbulent airplanes could not keep me away from Orchid Board.
Went to the AOS headquarters and liked it. Especially since they indulged my Aroid sweet thumb. No just orchids at the AOS ya know. :)
Dave, I tried a few times to the do the nature walks, particularly at the MacArthur State Park, and a Kayak trip up and down the St. Lucie River, but time did not allow. Next time I will definetly try harder to do it.
I also saw an add for the famous ghost orchid you have been photographing on the side of a bus while I was down there.
Went to South Beach, it was pouring rain like crazy!!!!! As it did almost every afternoon while I was there. Good stuff for the plants, and I like lightning. :)
Took some pics, will post them in a short while.

OK Gang,
Here are some pics.
First a pic of a Rainbow after an afternoon storm. Very perty!
This one actually later turned out to become a double rainbow.

Tindomul 08-06-2007 04:33 PM

Just posted some videos. Ya know, my patented silent movies. :)

flhiker 08-06-2007 04:34 PM

Sorry! about the rain, thats south Florida in the summer. but its sounds like you had nice time anyway! I like that Terrestrial orchid , I think I will have to find one.

gixrj18 08-06-2007 05:35 PM

Nice pics, Tindo! It must have quit raining, here, right after you left. That's how it always works for me, too. I love the Vandas.....Thanks!

LOL. I'm in the Boca area also and it can't be stressed enough that Florida has the worst drivers....never have seen anything like it! They're all Kamikaze!

This is my first post here so hello to you and everyone else. I've been a member of another orchid forum for the last year and so involved with it that I forgot there's more than one out there. I'm an orchid-holic, help grow miltassias, brassias, and intergeneric oncidiums, cattleyas, phals and paphs and everything else that catches my eye....I'm not prejudice!

I'm going to have a look around this forum this week when I get a little more time.

In the meantime, happy growing everyone.

Hay Tin!! It's good to have you back here safe and sound :D
Great shots!

Hi Sandy, why not head into our introduction area for the proper greetings :D

gixrj18 08-06-2007 11:53 PM

The reason for the crazy driving, is because none of them are from here. It's just a melting pot of drivers from every habitat!

Ture! Most people who live Florida are not from Florida. But I believe there is a lot less respect for the laws and human life. They endanger your life then flip you off. :(

Tindomul 08-07-2007 11:46 AM

Hi Sandy! Welcome to the Board. Glad you could join.
My parents told me that it has not rained in a while either. Arggg! Hehe.

Lorraine 08-08-2007 03:06 PM

Hi Sandy,

Welcome to Orchid Board. I joined earlier this year and have found the OB forum very helpful. Do you belong to the BROS? Hope your plants are doing well in the heat.

Lorraine

Tin, glad you got to see the AOS. It's not raining here this week. You just never know during the summer when showers will build up. They don't last too long though. Now you can look forward to your next trip. November, Dec, Jan, Feb are great months here with so much to do and see. Art Festivals outside just about every weekend. Start making travel plans again.

Lorraine

cb977 08-08-2007 03:21 PM

Tin, I'm happy to see you got to the AOS
Isn't that "cork" tree amazing?

In a few years, the place will be even more beautiful...they're constantly working on making it better :D

Tindomul 08-09-2007 09:31 AM

Dave, that cartoon is hilarious!
I will most definitely be making plans for the near future. I'm sure with the cooler weather I would enjoy the AOS even more so.
Thanks Sue for the info, I thought that their displays were permanent and static. Should have known better. :)
