username suggestions

hi all! first of all, i want to say that im not leaving OB, nor do i plan on using it less than before but i've decided to join another orchid forum as well. you guys have been so awesome, that it makes me want to talk to even more orchid friends! im not leaving or anything, so dont get worried!

so, here is why i come to you for help (no pun intended) does anyone have any ideas for a username? i dont really want to have "help" as a username. please [I]help[/I me!

ps. its most likely gonna be rv-orchidworks

Call_Me_Bob 05-12-2011 03:39 PM

any ideas?

stefpix 05-12-2011 04:05 PM

i think you should keep "help" if you even need help to choose a username, then "help" is really appropriate!
and you would be recognized across multiple forums.

anyway I was not crazy about rv-orchidworks. I find very little cultural / experience information / sharing. Mostly praising each others' blooms. It always scores high on google when you search some species but you get very little informations from their posts.
Also you can't mention any vendors and they are a bit strict for that.

I like orchidsource a lot better and orchidsinteractive also

Call_Me_Bob 05-12-2011 04:14 PM

i'll check those two out. thanks for the input. the reason i didnt want to use "help" is because i didnt want to join and seem like a complete and utter newbie. on other forums that arent related to orchids, my username is orchidman, but thats sure to be taken. and wouldnt be recognizeable for people who use both forums. thats why i asked for y'alls input. to help me with a username, but also so that when i do join whatever forum it may be, maybe some OB-ers will have seen/contributed to this thread, and will recognize me as that person.

stefpix 05-12-2011 04:19 PM

help can be needed or provided. orchidman sounds pretentious. anyway most of people on a forum are "orchidman" or "orchidwoman". you could choose CantComeUpWithaUsername as a username

abigaillevans 05-12-2011 04:37 PM

Your username should be "CallMeBob!"

Tindomul 05-12-2011 06:19 PM

I usually go with names of mythical beings or fantasy characters. Usually the evil doers have the best names. But thats what I do.

nenella 05-12-2011 06:30 PM

:) I love Abbeys suggestion!
We would all recognise you & you don't use the username "help" which is what you're asking right?

Use a name you feel describes you or your interests. And.....please don't use "gal", "guy", etc. unless you are looking to hook up with someone of the opposite sex. There are other ways to show your gender if you think it necessary. Is there a particular genus of orchid you are really crazy about? Do you have other hobbies that could be adapted into a name?
Re: not wanting to seem a newbie. If the other group looks down on newbies, do you really want to go there?
My user name was chosen long before I got back into growing orchids and reflected my interests at that time. I still photograph (orchids now) and still am interested in fashion (I design and sew most of my clothing). It would be a real hassle to change it, so, I'll stick with fotofashion.

That is awesome! And most likely what I'll use. Thanks alot! I also just realized that in my signature ( depending on which board I join, some are picky) I can write something about OB and help being my username here. Idk it depends on how picky they are. Not so sure what board I'll join yet. Maybe I'll lurk for a bit to see if there is one that seems nice.

I cant say that another forum does or doesn't look down on newbies as I haven't joined anywhere. But even here I've gotten the occasional person who thinks I'm a newbie (I sort of still am, but not to the extent I used to be) now I'm not saying anything against anybody who thought that ( after all it's just instinctive when you see a username that is help ) or anything against newbies. And also, if you think about it, help is a pretty weird name! Haha maybe I am over thinking this.

Haha! I should be Nero Wolfe! :P

I like that TAFKAH, but I would change it to The Grower Formerly Known As Help,
I like Beverly's suggestions.
I would stick to something neutral. Something that would still define you in a few years no matter of what.

Got any other hobbies or interests? Tindos ID works great. Anywhere I see a Nazgul name I know who it is.

You could always incorporate your location into your name too. I got "DelawareJim" to distinguish me from the other Jims in my unit when I was doing American Civil War reinacting. It works so well, I use it for all my forums. "HarrisburgHelp"?

Cheers.
Jim

Planted tanks...you a member of the Lancaster club meeting at That Fish Place? I get up there a couple of times a year with several GWAPA members. I was just up there for Rachel's talk on inverts. Got a half dozen sweet Cory. habrosus from her; wish I got more.

Call_Me_Bob 05-13-2011 04:11 PM

No I'm not a member there it's a good 45 minutes away that y mom probably wouldn't appreciate driving. Especially with gas at almost four bucks a gallon. I do "know" Rachel though. I am a member if plantedtank.net the forum there is great. But I met Rachel there. Once I set up my 20 long I'm going to get fish from her. Right now I only have a 10 galling set up. But I'm piecing together a 20 long that I derimmed. I just took some full tank shots of my tank so I'll make a planted tank thread sometime and we can talk more about that there!

I like "CallMeBob" too but if that doesn't work you should try "HaveNoFear." I certainly think that every time I see your user name on this board :)
