brassia "REX".
large plants have large flowers :bowing
http://i1204.photobucket.com/albums/...g?t=1302344773 large plants also have large bulbs  http://i1204.photobucket.com/albums/...g?t=1302345258 http://i1204.photobucket.com/albums/...g?t=1302345327 Brassia Rex is a primary hybrid. The seed parent is Brassia verrucosa, the pollen parent is Brassia gireoudiana. The plant grows well in intermediate conditions and bright light. When new growths start to appear I start to water it more bec if you dont the leafs will split and seperate from the bulbs if it gets dry with the heat here already. Im watching this one unlike the last bunch I left on the porch to come home to orchid salad complete with croutons |
WOW! I have this one and it's spike is already about 2 feet long! The buds are just now forming but have a long way to go. Your pictures got me excited - I can't wait now!
Thanks for sharing! |
Well done.

Its a monster plant :)
Hope I can keep it alive over the summer. Most worry about they stuff over the cold winter. I just have blazing sun and heat down here for the next 5 months.. Just to keep it alive till next season is my immediate goal...The last one for some odd reason I decided to make 2 plants out of and the smaller one just died. The survivor got fried outside. Im going to change my plan this time and be more careful.. I don't read much mention about the scent of these but they are fragrant..A Very mild green sweet smell..Like I'm thinking of spiced green apples.. Thanks :) |
What a great plant. Quite a monster in size and I love those flowers.

They get huge fast. I've had mine for 1 year and have upsized pots twice already. In fact, the pot it's currently in will be too small Ina few more months. I'm now considering a large hanging wire basket, lol...

Sooooo beautiful! I have to add this to my wish list!

I saw one of these at a shop when I took a vacation to Fla., though I promised I wouldnt buy any orchids :(. They're brilliant! Good growing.

Love this plant! Gorgeous blooms! I see you have a few jealous spectators in the background looking on to see what the fuss is all about. They are also cuties!
|
10 new growths counted today :) it had 4 spikes to start.
this plant is growing on 1 direction..the bulbs are moving from one side of the pot to the other..The newest bulbs are smached against the edge of the pot . Ahh may need to put in bigger pot but Im not going to cut this one up like I did the last one and ruin it..:) Thanks You!! |

OOPS impulse buy. My bad!
I've just recently bought my first Brassia.... B. brachiata, also my first Oncidium O. Sharry Baby X Dancing Doll. I know nothing much about growing them but the plant habit looks like Miltonias of which I have a couple of NoIDs that grow like weeds outdoors for me. I'm in a frost free area with winter minimum temps down to about 7C/ 44F. The Miltonias get full sun in the mornings but shaded in the afternoon. Should I treat these new additions like the Miltonias? Should I mount or pot? If potting a coarse mix? Basket or solid pot? Any hints would be greatly appreciated. |
I read in a orchid book that you can mount them on wood.
