Picture of your noid phals

I'm thinking it would be great to have a thread where we can post a picture of our noid phals in bloom. I will start.

Beautiful blooms!

OK I'll play along... I called this one monster but it is a NOID. I call it that because the plant itself is simply enormous (and grows like a weed).

Wow! Those look amazing!

This picture was from a couple of years ago when it double spiked. It's currently in spike but not blooming yet. I call it Ruffles.

Thanks Ryan. Feel free to peek away any time. What's the span leaf tip to leaf tip on Monster? Ruffles may be right up there with it, it's huge also

Call_Me_Bob 03-08-2011 10:14 PM

well, my plants dont compare to ryan's but they are doing pretty well for me.

Silken, I know there's no way to know for sure but check this out. They look really similar.

Bob I love your mini purple! It's so cute. The second and third remind me of Phal. Nobby's Amy.

Almost a dead ringer! But we will never know for sure. It is a very prolific bloomer and they all seemed to last for months. Does yours do that?

quiltergal 03-08-2011 10:47 PM

Yep. It usually has a high flower count and they last 6 months at least. This plant has been AOS nominated twice but never awarded. The only other plant that has been awarded had 32 flowers on a single spike! How crazy is that?

Call_Me_Bob 03-08-2011 10:51 PM

the second and third are the same plant in my post :)

WOW!!!! I love the one in your first picture, Silken! It's gorgeous!

Here's mine. The first is a noid I got at safeway this fall and the second is my Great White Noid from Fred Meyers. It was my first orchid. It was more impressive this year. The flowers were about 6 inches across and there were 6 instead of the usual 4. It's also a huge plant.

Discus 03-09-2011 03:30 AM

I thought I'd take a couple of quick pictures this morning. I have 3 Phalaenopsis, all of which are NOID; two are currently in bloom.

As I was doing that, I noticed that the aerial roots on one of them were looking very sad, so I decided on an emergency mid-bloom repot. Good timing, and thanks for the life-saving thread... All the roots in the tightly packed sphagnum (so tightly packed that pouring water on top meant a very slow trickle through the moss) were basically dead. It's now in bark-based medium. I've been meaning to repot it almost since I bought it, but being in near-continuous spike/bud/bloom since then, my better half forbade me messing with it... I think with some TLC I can bring it back :)

There's a blog post about it if you want to read it here.

Oh, pictures you say? Right:

Lana 03-12-2011 10:42 PM

Zildjian, what a wonderful thread you've started! I have a few phals currently in spike; can't wait to share the blooms with you in a few weeks! My only blooming phal now is a named one :)

Zildjian 03-14-2011 07:08 AM

Indeed funky. I'll update the pics of that phal soon.

Thanks Lana. I love pics of phals so I thought of having this thread and I know too that many loves to see and share pics as well.

He he maybe a similar thread for named phals.

I'm not sure though how would a big thread loaded with pictures loads/opens up in one's PC.

Hi guys, I'm new here. These are my NOID Phals. I'm trying to figure out their names. Maybe you guys can point me in the right direction. Silken, I have one that is very similar to the second picture you have. Where did you get it from. Mine came from a wholesale greenhouse in Apopka Fl called Korus. I was told it was from Korea.

Sorry about the name can't help you with that. The blooms are all beautiful though. The first has a great display. The 2nd & 3rd I seem to have them as well. I like those forms very much they are classic to me. Thanks so much for sharing.

Can't say I'm much help either but the plant in the first photo has a STRONG possibility of being Phal Vivien or at least has Phal Vivien genes in it. I have one that looks remarkably like it.

silken 03-20-2011 08:44 PM

Hey Doug, The one in my second picture came from a Canadian home building store called Rona. Sorry, not much help. Once they are NOID's it's pretty much permanent even if you have an idea what it might be, there are just so many hybrids out there. Yours are all beautiful. Just goes to show that even a plant without a name can be gorgeous :)

Thanks Bob. I think it looks a little deeper gold on the web photo, than it does in real life, but it is a rich gold with a deep red lip.
