Wow, great fern! In Brazil we use the same name, 'stag horn', "chifre-de-veado", for Platycerum fern. A friend in Portugal is using the old parts of this type of fern to mount orchids, and it works!

OK Suzanne. Watch it!

"WOW" was what I said when I saw your post, but it took me a minute to realize there were supposed to be eyes.

Your stag looks great, I am assuming the terra cotta pot is to another plant????

I have a stag that has been in the same wire pot for 12 years, they do not like to be repotted, they attach themselves "shield fronds" and as they age they are green when young but turn brown and papery as they mature. My father-in-law has one that my mother-in-law received for a gift well over 25 years and in the same wire pot as well. Give it a treat with  peels. They are epiphytes and are slow growing. Excellent care

They also like orchid food :D

justatypn 05-12-2007 10:02 PM

As well as orchid mix , with added charcoal as a medium. Orchid food is possible, clueless there but they have slow growing habits that they rarely need to be fertilized.

Mine gets a light shot of food maybe once every 6 weeks or so, just a little , not often.

dennis 05-12-2007 10:22 PM

the pot below is for a sago palm

Gin 05-12-2007 10:27 PM

:cheer: Love it ! Beautiful plant ..

justatypn 05-12-2007 10:55 PM

Are you going to grow the sago indoors? I love sago's and so does the scale, so keep a close eye on it especially if the guy is close to your chids. They are tricky when grown indoors. They like bright light, no sun and a lack of light will limit the growth. One plant I did not have good luck with growing indoors...now outside...whewwww a new chapter...

Nice Stag!!!!!! Mine is brown. :( Completely. Its been that way for years. But at least it doesn't ask for water anymore.

I also thought you were flashing us Sue. Lol.
