Andy's

I just received a large order from Andy's. I had ordered for the first time last spring and was very pleased. Now I've ordered some more expensive and unusual stuff and am pleased. Good sized and very healthy plants and even a bonus plant. Andy's is HIGHLY recommended.

I have a Den. peguanum from him (secondhand) that I'm totally in love with...:cloud9:

ronaldhanko 08-14-2010 12:48 AM

Most of the stuff I got was not on Andy's list either - in fact only one or two plants were. I got:

Dend. agathodaemonis, brassii, cuthbertsonii (semi-alba), hellwigianum, jacobsonii, malvicolor, masarangense, seranicum, hasseltii (or similar), sulphureum, vexillarium var. microblepharum, violaceum

Lepanthes elegantula

Neocogniauxia monophylla

Chytroglossa aurata, Hintonella mexicana, 4 unidentified Ornithocephalus species, Phymatidium tillandisoides, Platyrhiza quadricolor, Zygostates alleniana and multiflora.

Awesome! I have only heard great things about Andy's - I have only one plant from Andy's - jumped in on a friend's order from them ...
Someday ... ;)
Can't wait to see pix of yours!

I love Andy's. They call and check on your orchids after you receive them and are very helpful.

ronaldhanko 08-14-2010 03:39 PM

Yes, they called me last time - I wondered what was going on at first.

Their weirdest orchid I have came from Andy's.
Cynorkis purpurascens.
I have not gotten it to flower yet over the past 2-3 years...and I thought I killed it several times ^.^
Right now the leaves are bright and happy!

DANG!
After all the years & years of orders, Harry & Andy have NEVER called me after I received my plant orders!

WHAT do I need to do to get personalized service?

Becky Jo 08-16-2010 02:31 PM

I guess you to tell them that you are special too. ha ha Maybe this is new thing they do.

Harry & Andy know that I am special when it's time to collect! Actually, they are very generous when it comes to delivering quality orchids!!

They never call me, either, and they keep sending me plants that look as if they were forgotten in the back of their greenhouse. I guess they don't want me as a client LOL.

I love their selection, and the fact that you can call them for stuff not on their website, but the plants leave something to be desired. All of my problem orchids are from Andy's. :(

The only issue I have with Andy's is trying to figure out why it takes them 1-Month to ship your plant. From the time you order the orchids, they tell you it will take 4-weeks to get that order to you. The only thing I can figure out is they are extremely busy !

Tom-DE 02-25-2011 08:16 PM

NeoNJ, your experience with Andy's is very unusual...I have been buying plants from Andy's for years. The plants normally will be shipped the following week after the order has been received. During the show season, they are busy and they may hold the order for a week or two for the most.

Once in a great while, you may receive a mislabeled plant but they will take care of that problem. Their customer service is A+

Tom-DE:

No, this is not Unusual. This is the Truth !
I ordered from Andy's last week, and was given a Ship date AFTER March 16, 2011.

I ordered (1) Plant.

This is the 2nd time I ordered from Andy's and have had a SHIP DATE that was in WEEKS and not days.

ronaldhanko 02-25-2011 08:33 PM

It may very well be that they are delaying shipping on account of the cold weather. I ask vendors to do that since shippers are notoriously unreliable, as far as leaving plants in the cold and heat, and in very cold weather even they may not be able to prevent the plants from freezing.

Now is their busy show season and you can check on their show scheduele on line...plus it is too cold for you(in NJ) to receive plants anyway.

What did you order? I am surprised you are willing to pay that much of shipping charge for a single plant. It got to be a great species that you can't wait to get you hands on.

BTW, Andy's Orchids is going to be at Longwood Gardens show on March 25-27. NJ is not that far, so you can come hand-pick your plants. Andy normally will bring your pre-ordered plants to the show without charging the normal shipping and handling, but you may have to pay the PA sale tax. Longwood will charge entrance fee also.

Re: Andy's Orchids ....

That is very UNUSUAL.......Too cold to ship?
Odd.

I just received orders from Oak Hill Gardens and Orchids Limited ....

I don't know there is just something about those California vendors that keeps me away !!!

ronaldhanko 02-25-2011 09:27 PM

I think Tom is probably correct - show season and the busyness is the more likely reason, though I never have orchids shipped in excessively cold weather.

Tom-DE 02-25-2011 09:31 PM

LOL! Good for you, NeoNJ. Just make sure you don't get a frozen box next time then.

Andy has few big shows coming right up thru the first part of March, POE is one of them, so your order is going to be understandable late. If you call, they will explain that to you or they may have already noted that on their website. Deal with your "unusual" situation/experience or call and cancell your single plant order...

NeoNJ, I don't believe Tom was being rude. Just trying to point out that most folks actually WANT the suppliers to hold off shiping in cold weather so as to avoid problems with the cold during trasnportation. Many folks here have found this a problem from vendors who don't take as much care to avoid such things.

This is a point which you keep pushing and keep getting the same answer from others here. If you disagree that's fine, but please stop pushing the issue into arguments like these.
