Laelia purpurata roxo-violetta? in bloom

Unfortunatly I can't claim the credit for making this beauty flower (my father and mother did). I think it's Laelia purpurata var. roxo-violetta but I'm not sure in the variety. Could be Laelia purpurata var. roxo-violetta marginata to or vinicolor?. My parents saved this plant from a retiring grower from frost at the end of last year. This was one of their doubles and due to the dark purple my favorite "semi-alba".

That lip color is gorgeous!

When there is some more light from the back the colour is a little bit more bright but the picture is pretty close.

var. roxo-violetta is the same as var. aco (according to Menezes

I love purpurata when the lip is dark :)

With all the name changes, is Laelia purpurata the same as Sophronitis purpurata, which in turn has been renamed Cattleya purpurata?

Just wondering because I bought Sophronitis purpurata on the spur of the momment just over a week ago and just wondering if it is the same species as this.

Rosie,

Yes, the RHS has changed them to Cattleya, they are all the same species therefore they are the same plant.

Thanks Warren,

At Tatton Park just over a week ago I saw a Laelia purpurata which was massive little did I realise it was the same as the small plant I had just bought labled Sophronitis purpurata. :coverlaugh:

I actually really hope that one day mine gets big... yes I will have to find space for it but I would love for it to do that well.
