My growing Space 05/10 (D/L Warning)

Orchids pretty much occupy most of the space in my house. There are some in the bathroom, some in the toilet, every room has at least one orchid. The backyard is almost full of them. We mainly put our orchids on top of milk crates and bread crates, but we are slowing starting to replace them with DIY orchid stands. So far they are mainly 2 tiers but will make some 3 tiers for my Den speciosums :) The orchids are divided by the amount of water needed at the moment. The Den nobiles are under the carport which gets morning and afternoon sun, but no water. The Paphs and Oncidiums are under the carport aswell, but they get a little bit of rain and morning and afternoon sun. The Dendrobiums, Cymbs and other orchids are under my shadehouse. The shade house is using 70% shade, and the area has heaps of airmovement. The best grown orchids are under the shade house.

Happy to take some ideas and comments on my growing area.

oh my heavens... I'm so green with envy. It looks like a sanctuary to me! Where do you live? I sadly live in northern Utah, so never could I have the outdoor setup like you do... I keep begging my husband to more somewhere more hospitable to something like what you have.

Thanks for sharing! I'm in love!:bowing

Methinks your red spider is really a Dgmra...probably Skywalker or Hani Star 'Star of Unicorn'

Is it labeled?

Great looking collection! :)

makaldoy 12-01-2010 09:32 AM

That's a lot of em hehehe. May I ask if you don't mind how long it would take for you to finish watering them? I think my collection is as small as 1/8 of yours and I'm spending about an hour or more watering them.

Forever-mango 12-01-2010 09:37 AM

The collection is bigger now, so it takes around 30min with a hose. But need 30mins extra for rainwater on the Paphs.

But it can take upto 3 hrs when i fertilize using watering can. In that 3hrs i do pest checks and remove the unwanted leaves etc. I do this one a week.

What are you doing with that d. loddi? I have one that I recently potted in a tree fern pot, but it's lost a few leaves and I'm not really sure what I'm doing wrong. :(

epiphyte0 05-02-2012 12:23 AM

Beautiful fish tank! :D
