I went for a walk in the woods behind my house and had to run back for my camera- the pink lady's slippers are in bloom.

They grow under pines, so now I have pine pitch on my clothes in my hair- but who cares?

These are wonderful, Connie. Would love to see and photograph them.

Sounds and looks like you could be in the same neighborhood!
Nice pics BTW!

They are Showy Orchis. Much smaller than the Lady's Slippers, but so delicate and beautiful. To take those photos, I lay down in the mud, proving once again that I am truly crazy.

Wow, great to see pics of these things in the wild.

I don't think you are crazy to lay down trying to get the pics... I did much the same when I saw Dactylorhiza in the wild.

I went for another walk today and found another group of lady's slippers, this time closer to the house. If they get any closer, they'll be growing on the deck!

LinhT 05-23-2010 11:03 PM

Fantastic! How lucky that you have these growing so close to home. I just went on my first "orchid in situ hunt" today with OB member musicloveranthony. We saw many clumps of Cyp candidum. It was hot and humid. We were sweating like crazy but I loved every minute of it and took lots of photos. Can't wait to do it again!
