A project I did last Sunday
We went to the beach for vacation the first week of April, and as I do everytime I go, I haul back all sorts of stuff (bags of shells, bird skulls, palm trunks and driftwood) to use in my greenhouse.
Here is a project I did last weekend using some of my beach hooch. I used some blooming phals, made a mass mounting of a huge cork slab laid flat on the ground beside a big Anthurium plowmanii, and blooming epidendrums, assorted bromeliads and other stuff around as accents, and floored everything with river rock, shells and neat stuff. I will add the photos in a sec |
....sounds like a beautiful projects:) I imagine something exotic looking

 What a gorgeous display!
That Faeryland Sithen must be a beautiful place to live :D |
Beautiful work! :)

 excellent display you have created! nice work

Thank you all! It was fun. This is "phase one" so to speak. I have to locate a suitable large arching piece of driftwood to use as a totem, and I am going to mount some hoyas and orchids on that as well. I want it to arch over the phals.

Great display!

Very nice! How big is this display? Are you sure you want to use bird skulls??? :hmm

LOL Shadow, I have all sorts of stuff in my greenhouse stuck here and there in nooks and crannies. This planting bed is the "back bed" of a bed that stretches about 30 feet +/-. The dividing line between the front and back bed is a large Heliconia bihai "Chocolate Dancer". In this same general area are a big red Etlingera (torch ginger), a dwarf powderpuff, some immature palms and a few other neato thingies.
Most of the unusual "accents" I put in the greenhouse are things like fossils we pick up off the beaches, driftwood, seashells, the colorful back shells of crabs, stuff like that. This last time at the beach we found a perfect bleached specimen of a pelican skull, which makes a nice little "found object" for decoration. |
Wow, its like an orchid display at a judging orchid show! Very beautiful! Great work, I think that these sorts of displays is really the reason we all keep orchids. And the more ways we find to show them off, the more beautiful they become!!!
