Three blooms, opening in succession between 1/2/10 – 1/9/10. First time I have rebloomed it since receiving it in bloom two years ago!

Yvan, it's gorgeous! I like the coloring on yours much better than some others I have seen. Has this one taken over your apartment yet?

Country Gramma 01-18-2010 10:57 PM

I love Phrags, too and that one is exceptional.

Since I'm a chronic overwaterer (I've put most chids into S/H to save thier lives :blushing: ) I do wonderful with Phrags. Got several new shoots on a couple of mine.

Wow!
:winner:

whygreenberg 01-19-2010 01:09 PM

Thanks all! Yeah, this guy kinda knocks my socks off. It had a rough first year in my care, came to me in a wretched state. So was doubly happy it seems to have finally bounced back.

@Terri & Tracy: Unfortunately, I still won't be getting any more Phrags at this size even though I really love them. I had to move this one from its usual growing spot once it started spiking. And now that it has started growing a third fan, am afraid I will REALLY have to reconsider where it should go.

Vina 02-24-2010 04:01 AM

Beautifull! Great growing!
can you pls tell a little about your growing area / conditions of your phrags? I still can't find the best watering method for phrags, and wheather to let them sit in water or not.
thanks for sharing!

ewcia1028 02-24-2010 10:38 AM

Great Phrag Yvan,I have the Grande and Paul Eugene Conroy which looks almost the same like Grande. Vina,I grow it in S/H and water it ever second day and they seem to be ok.Congratulation:bowing Yvan and happy growing.:)

whygreenberg 02-24-2010 11:16 AM

Thanks ewica!

Vina—Perfectly willing to share, although my conditions are I'm sure really not ideal at all. So take with a grain of salt. This is the only Phrag I have, and it has actually been grown under a compact fluorescent light, 105 watts. Almost constant air movement, temps which get as low as 55 F in the winter and as high as 85–90 F in the summer, humidity always somewhere between 50%–70%. I have it potted in sphagnum moss in a plastic pot, and only water when the top of the moss is completely dry (almost crunchy). For me, that translates into usually about twice a week, sometimes three times a week in intense summer heat.

Hope that is at least somewhat helpful! Good luck!

Vina 02-24-2010 01:27 PM

Yvan, Ewcia, thanks a lot!
I have only 4 phrags, but it seems this is not the end of list.

ewcia1028 02-24-2010 04:37 PM

Hi Vina:hello, how many have you bloomed already and in what kind of medium have you grown your prags?:)

Vina 02-25-2010 06:39 AM

ewcia, none of them so far. I just started (a year ago) with 2 young plants: Phrag Wallisii and Phrag Schroederae. And 2 I bought at the Show in Dresden (Germany): some Bessae hybrid and one NOID.

Schroedearea and NOID I grow in mix of clay pebbles, fine pine bark, carcoal and a very little sphagnum.
Wallisii and Bessae hybrid I never repotted, so I'm not very sure. And .... it seems that Wallissii is spiking!

Hope it will :) How long does it take from spike emerging till bloom?

regarding Dresden I wouldn't say this is the only place to buy chids (I've never been there before). On 2009 there was this Congress (once in 4 years) , so everybody expected good show, new contacts and large number of growers / farms.

smartie2000 02-27-2010 12:44 PM

hurray mine is in sheath :)

Hello Vina,it takes some time but it is worth waiting,I would say 2-3 weeks and it really depends on weather and it is hard to say exactly, when is wamer faster, when colder slower.Good luck

orchidman77 02-27-2010 11:23 PM

that is a beauty! congrats!
