Phal violacea alba
Just picked up this one at a local show. Nice size, shape and color. Since I had my 'Joy' clone in flower as well, I decided to cross them...this one is the pod parent. The flower was receptive, so we'll see how things turn out.

What a beauty, good luck with the cross!

I LoVe both of them! :cloud9:
Please keep us informed! |
Absolutely stunning flower!
|
They're both gorgeous! The seedlings will be winners no matter what!
|
Brilliantly beautiful! I like the stronger green markings on the violacea alba, but both are gorgeous!
|
2ljd, Did the cross take? These parents look very nice to me. I'd love a few seeds of this one!

This particular seed pod aborted pretty quick...unfortunately, I think the flower wasn't very fresh. It was already in bloom when I bought it. But I do have a nice seed pod of the 'Joy" clone (selfing) that will be ready in another month or two. If there's enough material, maybe I can send you some seed. |
That's a shame. Those will make some lovely offspring.

Yes it is...I picked up the plant from Big Leaf Orchids not long ago. I also selfed the 'Joy' clone of Phal. javanica and the protocorms are just starting to show their first leaves now....
|
Very nice, I like javanica. I'd love to talk about a trade when the time comes. :) I have some gems in compots, flask, and capsules. Send me a pm if your interested. ;)

It could be crossed with P. micholitzii. See the clue to its lip.
Anyway, it is still very beatiful. |
Edward, what clues are you referring to? It looks more like a strait violacea to me. If it where a Penang Violacea I would expect rounder petal tips and hairs on the lip.

It could be crossed in the early generation, after that, back to mate with other P. violacea many times and pick up what they want. Some said this is a process called “purification”. But it’s gene had been mixed with other species, the different appearance will reveal or not only from the Probability. But if we identify it as species, it is very controversial, and also confuse the breeding. |
violacea alba is one of my favorite Phal species. Congratulations on having the Joy. Its very nice and quite $$$ :-)
