Nishide miyako
Neofinetia falcata Nishide Miyako (西出都). My most reliable bloomer. I thought I posted this yesterday, but can't find the post.

i like the leaves! variegated type
:iagree: flowers look sweet too, almost dainty compared to leaves. Are they, or is it just that the leaves make them appear small.
they're small - about a half inch (1.2cm) across. most neos have flowers about this size, there's only a couple that have larger flowers.
yeah, it seems for this chid, the leaves outstage the flowers!
Wonderful, I love the delicate flowers. It looks like you have a great healthy plant there as well :cheer:
I love these neos with pretty leaves! Since they spend ;ore time out of bloom than in bloom, it's nice to a have a plant that's pretty to look at. I used to have a variegated leaf neo, but it died when the person watching my orchids at x-mas forgot to water it.
Very nice plant, congratulations.
Camille sorry to hear you lost yours. Maybe you can get it replaced soon. I got an e-mail from Glenn saying he is off to England in about a week. Hopefully he'll be restocking Shannan. Cheers. Jim |
The flowers are pretty and the plant is fantastic.

I haven't either. I hope everything's alright and she's just busy getting ready for Glenn. Was the Suikaden your pick for my reindeer challenge from last Christmas?
I've decided to take the plunge and order Benisuzume and Shutennou from Glenn for my B-day and maybe a Neo book too. I was visiting your plant list after updating mine this morning. Wow! No wonder your Neo funds are a bit short. You have quite a list. Cheers. Jim |
Kip, it is really nice. It's time for me to get a variegated Neo.
blooming again this year, I guess I missed it last year. it also has a new growth on the side:

Cute!
beautiful!
Looks like it's growing nicely, Kip. If I remember correctly, you've been growing them in this medium for a while. So how wet does the lava rock stay? Can you get away with watering just once a week during the Summer?
Does the lava rock retain a lot of salts the way the Japanese pumice does? Or can you get away with using tap instead of RO? |
Our summer weather would kill anything that went that long between waterings. Pretty much everything gets misted daily during the summer, and watered with a week fertilizer solution once a week. The pots sit in a humidity tray, and act as a wick to pull humidity up around the roots.
There seems to be some mineral buildup, but only on the top of the lava rock, and it does not seem to have any effect on the plants. I've never tried RO water, just tap water. |
That is a beautiful plant! I love the variegation on that one.
blooming again. the second growth is fairly large now. open flowers are on a spike on the older growth, buds are on a spike on the newer growth. a third spike just starting to form on the older growth.

It is getting nicer every year ! Congrats!
Very nice. That is a happy healthy plant potted in lava rock instead of the traditional moss....delicate flowers cradled by leaves with yellow stripes....its amazing!
Lookin' better every year, Kip.
Looks wonderful! Love the leaves!
This is one of my favourite varieties. I really like the way the variegation looks as though someone has painted it on with a fine brush. I also like the deep pink colour of the flower spike when it grows out.
Cheers, Tim |
Looks great Kip! Better and better each year.
Looks like this is the year for flowers. I've got spikes all over the place this year. Cheers. Jim |
Blooming again. Not a terribly fast grower, but the most reliable bloomer out of all my orchids. A third growth is starting to form behind the main growth. I'm glad I started this thread, it's interesting to see how the plant has changed over the years.

Yes it is interesting to see the changes in the orchid over the years. So nice to have a reliable bloomer. :)
Great thread, I really enjoy the year to year updates :)
Very nice evolution, thanks for the pictures. It is becoming a nice plant!
I'm loving seeing this grow over time! Thanks for being so faithful with the updates!!
I'm sure you already know this, but for those reading who don't know.. with this type of variegation (cream as opposed to white) the more light you give it, the brighter and ncie your variegation will be! IF it's white instead of cream, lower light because it will burn in high light. |
