Phal. chibae
Phal. chibae - the bloom measures 1/2"
http://pic80.picturetrail.com/VOL858.../364421038.jpg The whole plant http://pic80.picturetrail.com/VOL858.../364421030.jpg I got this last year from Big Leaf. This is a first time to bloom plant and it has four spikes. Three of the spikes originate from growing points along the root system. Brooke |
Wow! Nice growing!

lovely

Very pretty and cute flower, thank you!!
|
I've been really tempted by this one. Over and over and over and . . . . Does yours lose the leaves, or are you able to maintain them?
|
What a cutsie! I have never heard of a phal growing spikes off the root system, that's neat! Are they coming off the roots themselves, or something else?
|
Super cool one, Brooke.

Camille I've had other phals grow spikes from a root. I currently have a deliciosa in spike with a couple of them originating from the roots.
This chibae is a seedling and has nothing but roots in the location of the spikes. It isn't old enough to have a long stem so it has to be from roots. I have a honghenensis that produced a keiki from a growing point on a root but I don't have a pic of it yet. It hasn't bloomed for me :>( Brooke |
what a beauty!! This is my first time hearing/seeing a Phal. chibae.
could you please share how your growing conditions are for your lovely chibae? |
Sorry John I forgot to answer your inquiry - no mine didn't lose any leaves over the winter. None of my "deciduous" types lose their leaves.
Fieldsofgold I grow in a g/h with minimum temps of 60degrees. Brooke |
I think I'm going to start looking for one of these, I really want to see spikes growing off of roots! And the blooms are very nice too.

Hi Brooke. Yours looks great. I have a seedling of these and it has just grown its 4th leaf. Do these have to be mounted? I have a P. lobbii that flowered for me already and I considered mounting that one but if I can have these two together mounted that would be even better. Yours seems to like the mount quite a lot.
|
Hi Richard - I grow most of my species mounted and can't give any recommendations regarding growing the chibae in a pot. It really has done well on the mount though  you should give it a try.
