Hi
I just happened upon this forum while looking for a Paph. So, I decided to join.
My name is Kevin. I currently live in Michigan. I've been growing orchids for over 12 years. I have about 150 to 200 orchids which range from Angraecum to Zygopetalum. I grow species and hybrids. I grow in a two-bedroom apartment which has a door wall that leads to a balcony. The balcony faces west. I grow under lights with the majority of my orchid growing under two 250W HID lamps in the second bedroom. I do have a small (Maui) orchidarium and other plants which grow in front of the door wall. Nine-five percent of my plants go outside for the late spring through late summer. I will share pictures of plants that have and will be in bloom. Thanks, K |
Hi Kevin...welcome to OrchidBoard :cheer:
Take a look around the neighborhood...there's a gallery, a chat room, an arcade and lots of friendly knowledgeable people here. Take a look at this! :cheer: http://www.orchidboard.com/community...r-members.html |
Hi and :welcome:! Sounds to me like you will be offering quite a lot of information to all of us! Can't wait :)

FINALLY! Another Michigander. There are a few here, but seems like Canadians (or, perhaps, Floridians) are most active
Where in Michigan? (Duh! I see you are from Plymouth - downstate). Sounds like you have everything under control, with that many orchids. Welcome, and feel free to join into any discussion you care to. |
Hi Kevin, sorry everyone is seizing you up for how much fun you are gonna be, that just the way this board is. Nothing but fun, hehe. Welcome to the Orchid Board.

It's all about placement
I have most of my plants in the second bedroom on a lightstand which I designed and a friend of mine built for me. It has a back which allows me to hang plants from chicken wire.
Yesterday, at our orchid society meeting, four members, I was one of them, gave a talk on our growing areas. I'll post pictures of my growing area shortly along with some plants that I've been able to bloom. Kev |
 Cool! I can't wait.
|
I just posted some album, one of my growing area. I have more recent pictures to add to that album. I'll do that later today.

Just yesterday, I asked hubby to add some horozontal strips of "something" to the back of an open rack I picked up recently. That "something" has just been changed to chicken wire!!! Thanks Kev :D |
Awsum setup. How do you like your Terrarium? I've been looking at something like that for upstairs (in addition to the modified aquarium I now have and the terrarium I am having built. These two are in basement.
|
I like it. The orchidarium is good for the warm growers. During the winter, my apartment can drop down to the upper 50s.
