Trichopilia suavis...finally found it!

you know you're an orchid enthusiast when..............

you finally get the orchid that's been at the top of your wish list and the buds are just an added treat!

Have been looking for this for quite some time now and finally found it. The wait is over!:whew It took a long time to find and wouldn't you know it, there are now 2 on ebay. I'll take pics when the buds bloom. These flowers are amazing.

Intermediate, low light and never dry. Have this (and also a Trichopilia tortillis, another beauty!) in CHC, sphagnum, tree fern.

MuscleGirl'sHobby 02-12-2009 08:26 PM

Congrats!
How exciting! I'll be looking foward to the pics. As for the ones on ebay... I'm sure they're not anywhere near the quality of yours... unless that is, they are from one of the few really good vendors on there. ;)

(..._...) 02-12-2009 08:27 PM

Lucky you!

I actually saw one of these at my local botanical garden, but did not know what type of orchid it was. Now I know! Thanks!

Yup, Nicole...one of the few really good vendors on ebay, Incredible Orchids and Brian's got another one for sale, a double spiker!!! His orchids are just as pristine as some of the larger, well known nurseries.

Lagoon 02-13-2009 07:03 AM

Wow! Nice find, Sandy. These are truly beautiful flowers. Can't wait to see it bloom

LauraN 02-13-2009 08:33 AM

Sandy - I took these photos at the GNYOS a few years back - The sauvis was an award winner - They are beauties .. If I remember correctly, I believe they had a fragrance. :hmm

quiltingwacko 02-13-2009 12:20 PM

You know you are an orchid enthusiast when you go to the botanical garden, and an interesting orchid isn't labeled.....and it drives you crazy!

(Admittedly, it isn't a long drive.)

Rosim_in_BR 02-13-2009 03:43 PM

First class choice, Sandy! The flowers are huge and intensely perfumed. I also grow it and really love it. Take a look at mine:

whygreenberg 02-13-2009 09:13 PM

Yeah!! Congrats on a sweet buy, Sandy! I love this 'chid. And if I had the room for one, I'd be on Ebay right this second.

Sandy4453 02-13-2009 09:43 PM

Mauro, just once....I'd like to see one of your mediocre orchids....not really:coverlaugh: Thanks for the thumbs-up on this! I've always loved this and the tortilis. Do you happen to grow that one also? If so, pics?

brooke, between yours and Mauro's, I'm tempted to get another one. Hmmm... How long have you been growing your gorgeous suavis?

Ah come on Yvan...move that pot off the stove and you'll have the room. These are intermediate, low light growers, perfect for indoors, especially in NY.

You hear that, Tindo and Dorothy?

Tindomul 02-13-2009 11:28 PM

Alright, I'm Convinced! This guy is just SOOOo Perfect!! All that Im worried about is humidity.

whygreenberg 02-13-2009 11:37 PM

Just don't know if the bf will let me get away with usurping the stove. Not that either of us really cook all that much...

snow 02-14-2009 12:03 AM

it defenitely is a beauty.

Ranchnanny 02-14-2009 01:11 AM

Sandy I am going to have to add this to my list. I have ordered from Incredible Orchids as well.

Can't wait to see the blooms....

Sheridan

Outstanding, Tindo! I think you got yours from the same vendor, incredibleorchids? (I was eyeing this one too!) I was soooo pleased with the packing and fast shipping, not to mention how nice the condition is, of this plant.

Now that you've got this, you're going to have to try a Trichopilia tortilis, another beauty!

Please post pics when you can, ok? What medium will you be using?

Congratulations! Great choice you made.

Tindomul 02-18-2009 09:46 AM

2 buds bloomed, 2 spikes growing but I don't think one of them will make it. I suspect, it's because of all the traveling it did to get to me BUT the buds were just an added treat. I wanted this plant badly and now that it's in my care, it's next blooming season is what I'm looking forward to!

Dorothy 02-18-2009 07:04 PM

Brooke 02-18-2009 07:10 PM

Use the same media you do for a potted phal because they like the same conditions.

Brooke
