Lc. Mem. Robert Strait 'Blue Hawaii'

Third bloom at my place, and much much better than the first and second time.... :)

I think this plant knew I was thinking to give it away, and decided to surprise me this time... It will stay in my collection

Absolutely! The first two years, it only produced one flower, the color was not so deep, and the flowers hada bad shape... I think the plant needed its time to adapt (I bought it as a new import from Taiwan)... now, it is giving all the best of it, I think... :)

Ethan 02-10-2009 07:43 AM

Just got put on the top of my wish list! That is just GORGEOUS! If you EVER change your mind and decide it's not suited for your collection, I'll give you my address! :)

Royal 02-10-2009 10:55 AM

I was going to say the same thing! I can always make room for another blue. ;)

WOW! That is just spectacular! Glad you decided to give it a little longer. It would have been sad to see that one leave the collection. Great growing!!!

isurus79 02-10-2009 02:57 PM

Wow!! That is great!! Ive never seen one of these with such a vibrant blue. I did have one of the more common varieties of this cross and I remember the scent being absolutely fantastic!! Great growing!!

camille1585 02-10-2009 05:20 PM

Wow, that is spectacular!! Kicking it out of the collection would have been a huge huge mistake. Just gotta have patience sometimes! ;)

greenbean 02-10-2009 07:09 PM

Ramon, does this one vary from plant to plant? I've seen it for sale online on several sites, but the color falls pitiously short of yours. They might be early blooms that haven't developed the full color, like your first and second blooms, but I don't want to order it if it never develops that color. Where did you get yours?

CoolPhrog 02-10-2009 08:10 PM

WOW!!!! WOW!!! That's amazing! Yeah, I gotta get me one of these for sure!!!!!

I applaud you Ramon!

Evan, to be honest, I have no idea.. this is the only plant I have seen in real life... I bought a 1YTB plant, but it died due to an unknown infection within one week, and the nursery replace it with a division (the plant I have now). I've got it from Germany (Schwerter Orchideen)

Ooooo, Schwerter still has it!! I am so so tempted to order it. Maybe I will in april if the project plant is there too....

Tindomul 02-11-2009 10:51 AM

Oooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooo oo!!!!!
I like that.

BikerDoc5968 02-11-2009 11:46 AM

Ramón,
About a year ago I got a seedling of this plant. It now has 2 new growths and 3 or 4 older pseudob's. So it is still a rather small plant. How large was your plant when it began flowering? After seeing your pics, mine is staying with me, too!

kavanaru 02-11-2009 01:18 PM

Biker, my plant was a division with 5 "old" PBs. It bloomed on the new PB, and does it every year this way ;9

Thanks Ramon. I think I still might keep this one on my wishlist. But I think if I do order it I'll try one of the more local sources first, just to make things easier (and cheaper!)

Leisurely 02-13-2009 09:23 PM

Simply stunning Ramon. I love it. I have the plant but it has never bloomed yet. I hope it is as nice as yours.
