Neostylis Lou Sneary 'Blue Moon' ...help please
:waving So I was out in Homestead riding a motorcycle so I wouldn't buy an orchid just enjoy myself and reflect on my addiction?.
So I ended up at Banjong Orchids and the lady there smiled at me as soon as I came in. She asked me what I would get today in her cute asian accent. I was so proud of myself I just replied....can't buy today I can only look since Im on a bike:biggrin: So I started talking to her and her very knowledgeable nephew Ben about neos...well they taught me a lot of things including how I can take a neo in a motorcycle since they are pretty small and if I go straight home. So.....it has no flowers and I was wondering if anyone knows what the flowers might look like. They said blue and that it smells pretty nice too. Any info would be greatly appreciated. |

Thanks for the pics :) I wonder is it might have some blue in the stem like that red emperor fella has, you know what I mean?
Here's too many? pics of it I just took. Night time already bummer still not too bad you can see it pretty clearly. |
Since Shuttennou (Red Emperor) is species I'm not too sure how different the spikes look on the neo hybrids compared to the species. I only have the species neos right now, haven't gotten my hands on any hybrids. Yet. So I've never seen those spikes up close on the hybrids. From photos elsewhere I've seen, I'm guessing it won't have as much of the blue purple hue compared to some of the species neos. Here's LI Jane's Lou Sneary 'Kultana' she posted here. Perhaps yours will look similar? Her pic has a better view of the stems.
http://www.orchidboard.com/community...y-kultana.html By the way, some of the species neos have bright red spikes with reddish buds that flower white. Real cool. Enjoy your new 'Lou' swamper! Treat us to some more :photo: when that bad boy flowers. |
Its on orchid wiz. The flowers def have more of a blue/lavender tone to them. I think you will be very happy :)
|
Both 'Blue Moon' and 'Kultana' show gorgeous colour. My Lou Sneary is mostly white like the standard Neo with just a touch of blue on the tips of the petals. Good luck with yours, Swamper! I hope you get a blue one.
:) |
Joe,
That's a nice looking plant you got there...I just love the way Ben has a habit of selling the plants at Bangjong! I walked out of there last week with a V. coerulea after just stopping by for a look. ;) I can picture you riding your bike home...all hunkered down with this little chid under your riding jacket. By the way, mine blooms in thesummer, and last year gave me two wonderful, long lasting, fragrant spikes...and my plant is considerably smaller than yours. I have high hopes that yours will do wonderfully. :D |
Tracy thanks for the info on the Shuttennou, I don't know much about Neos or which is hybrid or species so thanks :)
Paul thanks for looking it up on your new? Orchid Wiz program. Shirley Im sure hoping for blue Im feeling confident it will have some blue in it. Dave that was pretty funny. I actually had it tucked in one of the saddle bags. I knew I couldn't fit a vanda in there but I wasn't prepared for the neos. Oh well. Next time I'll go on a skateboard...hmmmm but then they'll strap one on my back or something :) Thanks everyone |

Thanks guys, Ron how's the fragrance?
|
I love it, and I love the pot it is in. Did it come in that pot? I can just see you on a bike with this.
I just ordered Neostylis 'Fuchs Ocean Spray'. Hopefully that one will be blue. I seem to fall in love with anything that is blue. |
It is very fragrant and reminds me of the Neofinetia parent.
|
LOL Yes it did come in that pot, and it rode in the saddle bag so you wouldn't have been able to see it, but you may have wondered why I was driving so fast :)
Thanks Ron, sorry to ask another question but is it fragrant at night only? |
Hi Swamper...I know I'm not Ron...at least I don't think so...but mine is fragrant during the day time.
|
LOL Thanks David
|
 Don't mention it.
|
Hey Swamper - Mine is Neostylis Lou Sneary 'Lea', which I thought was blue. However, it is now in bloom and to me looks more pink than blue. Here is a pic. of mine.

My Neostylis Lou Sneary 'Lea' has a couple of spikes, will post pics if they follow to completion....

Mine also has two spikes. (One not open yet) I just didn't take at the right angle to show both as I was more concerned with taking the flowers.

Swamper
It is fantastic. You couldn't wish for anything better. Beautiful plant, fantastic color, and I love the pot. If I remember correctly, you said they don't do shipping. Oh, what I wouldn't give for one just like that, pot and all. You lucky man. Marilyn |
Yep, Swamper you have done a good job. I love mine but like yours better - more flowers! I think the pot is real neat also. I'll have to look for something like that perhaps for some other orchids I need new containers for.
Don |
Very nice plant! Congratulations.
Thanks a great story of how you were convinced an orchid will survive a motorcycle trip. I'm sure she really had to twist your arm to get you to agree too. Cheers. Jim |
I couldn't log on last night for some reason, maybe the server? Anyway thanks for the cudos .
Marilyn, they do ship but they don't have a website. I will post their phone number so you can call them. Don, they also sell those pots if you are interested. Jim although I did it, I wouldn't reccommend the motorcycle as a means to haul them LOL. But desperate times call for desperate means, or something like that ;) |
Congrats on the great blooms! That's a fantastic plant! (and a great story to go with it!)
|
Thanks Shakkai, it's blooming more every day. its got 2 more spikes just beginning to bloom. No scent though, night or day.
|
It finally bloomed! Very pretty blue. Aren't you glad you went bike riding that day now?
