Everybody Is Home For The Winter

Well, we had a hard frost last night so everybody had to come home and get tucked in for the winter...even though we'll have some nice days for a couple more weeks, it's too much to haul things in and out! So Ross, see, everything made it home just fine!

One word for ya Biker!!
BEAUTIFUL!!!!!!!!

I wish I had that down here!!!

smweaver 10-04-2008 01:54 PM

Nice set up you have. Everything looks well arranged and tidy. What kind of orientation does your greenhouse have--east, south, etc.?

dgenovese1 10-04-2008 02:08 PM

Hey Bikerdoc,

I just thought I'd chime in and say what a nice set up I think you have. And your collection looks nice and healthy. :)

camille1585 10-04-2008 02:32 PM

I love your greenhouse, it's wonderful!! It's full of orchids, and there's just enough space to add a cozy chair to sit and admire the orchids. Can I come over?

Mine are all in too. In fact, some never even came out this summer because the nights were too chilly. Right now I only have my Cym and a Den kingianum outside. They'll be coming in in a few weeks too.

Vanessa 10-04-2008 02:37 PM

AWESOME!!! What a beautiful set up you have there...and so many blooming chids. :bowing Bet I know where you will be spending a lot of time this winter. :)

charmbutterfly 10-04-2008 02:52 PM

Oh wow i think that may be the neatest greenhouse i've ever seen !! Nice job buddy!

OrchidTess 10-04-2008 03:09 PM

Everything looks absolutely great!!! Nice job!!!
May I ask what type of heater you're using??

Des 10-04-2008 03:15 PM

Bikerdoc , I must say that is very neat and tidy. I can't imagine having to put my plants away for the winter as we have a temperate climate here , no days below freezing at least. What temps do you go down to there ?

Lagoon 10-04-2008 03:26 PM

Oh wow, Howard! Lovely view of all those orchids
Feel free to get some close ups of those slippers

BikerDoc5968 10-04-2008 03:27 PM

Jacki, you don't need a GH in Orlando, just some smudge pots and then you can sit around at nite and roast marshmellows.

As for our winter lows, gets to 5 to 10F (-15 to -11C)

The heater is a natural gas 20,000BTu. It has a thermostatically controlled fan. I use an electic heater as backup....just haven't put it in place yet.

The exposure isn't the best but it is all I could have at this home. Looking through the door you are facing south.

Thanks for all the wonderful comments.

BikerDoc5968 10-04-2008 03:39 PM

Nobody likes living in a messy home...not even my chids!

Bummers! I was soooo hopin that wouldn't be the case and you'd have to house some up north here a bit   If you don't have room for the Masdies, just get them anyways and have them shipped to me

Jkelee 10-04-2008 05:14 PM

Biker, I do have a GH in Orlando, just not as Tall as yours, and big I guess :(
We had to stay under the fence-HO rules, and a small back yard-no room. So she's only 6' high and about 8x8 I think. I admire everyone else's with bigger, Sa-weeeeeter ones :bowing

Jackie :)

BikerDoc, What size is your greenhouse? Can you tell us anymore info on it? Was it a build it yourself from a kit? I love it and would like to have one someday.

BikerDoc5968 10-04-2008 07:31 PM

Jackie, whatever you have, I'm sure, is wonderful. The funny thing about human nature, not to get too philosophical, is that we always want more....sometimes what we have can offer greater pleasures. Anyway, bummer about HO rules and regulations!

Karen, this is a GH kit. The manufacturer is Sun Glo (Sunglo Greenhouses) I purchased it through Costco because it was on sale and even not on sale it is still cheaper. Costco online always has the 8 x 12 for sale and if you go to their site it will list all that comes with the GH. I added 2.5' (8 x 15) for $400.00 which included the extended benches and wire shelves and larger electric heater which I use as backup. You can PM me if you want more info...thanks for asking...hope you get whatever GH you desire.

Sandy4453 10-04-2008 11:18 PM

Your GH is outstanding, Howard. You've got a gorgeous selection in there, just love everything I'm looking at. Even the wood floors are great looking! I usually see cement.

Also love the view looking out of the GH. If you don't mind, what is it looking out on to? Looks very cozy.

Lavendula 10-04-2008 11:36 PM

that's amazing... it must have taken a lot of work and love. I'm in awe ;)

BikerDoc5968 10-05-2008 08:07 AM

The view out of the GH is my deck where my infamous Oak tree hangs over and pellets me with acorns from mid August to October. Never been seriously injured and my friends love gathering their winter food reserves and I get hours of entertainment watching them. We have chipmunks, black, brown and gray squirrels and an occasional woodchuck. Hopefully things in the GH will get better in 2 or 3 months when things come into spike!

Nice Orchid House, really nicely done and very clean.

I like it, gives me some ideas.

Tommyr 10-19-2008 12:31 PM
