Ok...this is a hard one to narrow down, even after having just gone out to review my collection...at this very moment I have 4 favorites.
One is my Home Depot recue plant, Den. Burana Charming ‘Blue Lip’. When I purchased it, it was a beat up little single cane dendrob with a broken spike that had one bloom (white with a purple/blue lip). Today it has about 6 tall canes and 5 arching spikes full of blooms, probably about 60! I've had the plant for 2 years now.
Another is my V. Mini Palmer. A small Vanda with olive, brown green tessellated petals and sepals, with a bright blue lip and a scent that is a cross between juicy fruit gum and grape cool-aid...yummy!
I have a Rhy. coelestis that has 3 spikes of beautiful white blooms with blue edges on the petals and sepals and a bright blue lip...this one also has a delightful fragrance.
The 4th is my Ascps. Irene Dobkin ‘York’ HCC/AOS, which is blooming for its second time this year. The spike is about 10 inches tall and contains about 30 perfect blooms that are an orange/peach coloring. I won a gold ribbon for best hybrid at my local Orchid Society meeting with this plant last month.
Here are quick pics I just took of these four favorites:

i do agree lagoon :iagree:

Ross 08-01-2008 04:41 PM

I agree. No favorites. But there are a couple that peak my interest more often than others: Dendrobium anosmum, Gastrochilus somai, all Angraecoids, Haeralla odorata, and a few intergenerics.

Royal 08-01-2008 04:54 PM

OK, to narrow it down a little, I guess I really like the Cattleya alliance. Laelias especially. I don't go for the frilly as much as the odd and interesting. Species mostly, but I love the hybrids too.

tuvoc 08-01-2008 06:14 PM

I'd have to say Laelia tenebrosa, although I've never seen one in person. I have a baby one with two new growths that should help me make my mind up next spring.

kavanaru 08-01-2008 06:20 PM

Catasetum pileatum... no discussion about that :D

but of course, there is then a list plants I really like and compete for the second place: Cattleya violacea, Neofinetia falcata, Cypripedium calceolus, Pleione formosana, rupiculous Laelias, different Cycnoches, and almost all sort of minis...

flhiker 08-01-2008 06:25 PM

I'll give you 3 guesses.

RosieC 08-01-2008 06:41 PM

for me, it's a great plant.. it grows near the house of my parent and was the orchid I started with in my addiction since I was a child... I have a white form here (not yet bloomed as imported last year as a plain PB) and 'Oro Verde'.. I continue looking for a mottled one and for "Imperialis"... and any other form I could get in Europe (unfortuneatelly, Catasetinae don't seem to be very popular here :()

peggypugsmom 08-02-2008 11:11 AM

Susie...Incredibly beautiful...I'll have to try one of those in the future!..

Psyguy10 08-02-2008 05:48 PM

Sorry to resurrect an old thread, but can you give me any and all details on the culture you have used for your Ascps. Irene Dobkin? I believe mine were going downhill when I purchased them, but I think I am resolving it. However, I want to learn any and everything I can from those who have been successful growing this gem! Lighting, potting media, watering routine (how dry do you let it get?), fertilizing routine, anything else pertinent? And anybody else want to chime in on this?!
