Beautiful MayA83!!! No such thing as "only Phals" around here. Phals are one of my all-time favorites! That flowering phal is gorgeous! Thanks for sharing. :)

MayA83 06-30-2008 12:47 PM

I didn't mean that it's something "wrong" with phals, I don't have anything but phals.... thats what I tried to say ;-)

kiki-do 06-30-2008 12:50 PM

Oh I knew what you meant! ;) ;) ;) ;) ;)
They are certainly healthy looking plants and you can tell they are happy campers! :waving

MayA83 06-30-2008 12:54 PM

Seems like they are happy now, but I've had some problems with too low moisture-levels... plus the sun was too hot for them a while, didn't give them enough shade. Seems like they are growing nicely again now...

kiki-do 06-30-2008 01:02 PM

I play shuffle all year long with my phals due to the changes of the sun pattern. I just moved many of mine out to the covered front porch, and keep them close to the wall. I had them off my kitchen window, but the leaves were starting to get too light. Some are out in my back sunroom where I have mesh shades to protect them. It's a fine balancing act, isn't it?
I had a Catt that I severly burned (didn't think there was a such thing as too much light) and so now I watch everyone of my chids like a hawk. :)

You're so lucky to be able to have your orchids outside, it's not possible in the cold north...

I only have this window to put them in, the other windows has sun all day long... so I'm looking forward to the day I can have the whole house on my own. My grandparents has the rest of the house you see...
But now I've learned that there is something called too much sun ;)

Chubidubi 06-30-2008 01:23 PM

They look very happy there. NICE.

MayA83 06-30-2008 01:47 PM

The blossom isn't my fault, it was like this when I bought it... :blushing:

R.I.P
One of my two small phals suddenly said thank you and goodbye... :_( The leaves just turned yellow one by one and fell off... It was most likely rot in the leaves.
So in the nearest future I'm heading off to my local orchid-dealer.
New pictures will come then.

Jadeco 08-01-2008 01:18 PM

I love the glass holders you put the Phals in! Very pretty =)

We are sorry to hear of the passing of your phalaenopsis. It happens to all of us at one time or another. It did sound like it might have been crown rot. But, hey, look at the bright side, now you can go out and find another!!

This I do because I've heard that the roots needs light also, but I've learned in here that that isn't nessecery, but I like the idea that they grow better when the roots gets light, -->roots have photosynthese.

Its really a challenge to grow chids here, but it feels soooo good when you finally figures out the balancing with light, moist, watering and tempratures...
I started with one phal, got more, killed a hole bunch, and after several years finally found what i was doing wrong... Now ive killed only a few after that...

What a lovely orchid window May! Velkommen to the board. I am Swedish and Danish so probably spelled that wrong. You get the idea anyway. :waving

MayA83 08-06-2008 03:13 PM

Thank you!
No, you spelled "velkommen" right! :bowing :waving

Hello out there in the whole wide world :waving

After my vacation, I've started at school again, so therefor I haven't been on the board in a few months.
But now I'm back, and have new pictures...

I was finally able to get hand on some orchids besides phals, most likely a dendrobium hybrid, it has alot of Den bigibbum species in it's background I'm told ;)

The other new one is probably a Burrageara Nelly Isler. '

I thank god of this board, because it hadn't been possible for me to find out what sort of orchids I've got, if it hadn't been for this board and it's people.. :bowing

So enjoy the pictures of my new "babies"

jimjim 10-10-2008 08:16 PM

very beautiful plants may!!

MayA83 10-11-2008 05:35 AM

Thanks :-)

camille1585 10-11-2008 08:00 AM

I love your new orchids! Nelly Isler is one of my favorite hybrids. Has it started to be fragrant yet? That's what I love the most about this one!:)

Bolero 10-11-2008 08:02 AM

Very healthy plants, nice growing.

MayA83 10-11-2008 11:07 AM

I haven't noticed any fragrant yet, but I just bought them yesterday. ;) And I am "blessed" with not so good smelling-sence. :blushing: So all together it maybe my smelling-sence that's missing... :blushing:

quiltingwacko 10-12-2008 11:16 AM

Well May, that is better than missing your common sense.

I've noticed that the flowers develop their fragrance about 5 to 6 days after they open, and it is strongest around midday. I think it smells a bit like spices, lemon and soap. In late afternoon and the evening it does not smell at all.
