This show stopper came from a dealer that is just up the street from the house...Green Earth Landscaping. The grower is Thomas Aaron. He got it from Owen Holmes @ Carter and Holmes....

So this morning's show was even more delightful. My DH took it down into his "studio" and took some proper pictures...I am so thrilled with this. And what's more, there's another sheath emerging!!!

tuvoc 06-25-2008 12:04 PM

Tell me about it...it wouldn't be so bad if it weren't RIGHT ON THE WAY TO THE GROCERY STORE!

'Newberry', along with 'VI Galaxy' are two of the best clones that came out of this cross, in my opinion! The flowers have enough substance to hold petals and sepals well positioned, the color is great, the lips unique in their own way! And, the best thing, they have the potential of giving 4 or 5, of these large flowers per stem!

Lagoon 06-25-2008 08:09 PM

Wonderful photo of a beautiful blossom, Congrats!

I just love this one, can't say enough about it - its a no fuss, strong grower with large gorgeous scented flowers.

Mines in bud right now, I always look so forward to these blooms.

:D

quiltingwacko 06-26-2008 06:10 PM

Oh that is sooo gorgeous! Orchids are a disease.

CoolPhrog 06-26-2008 06:32 PM

I am in LOVE with that flower !!!! It's gorgeous the contasting colors of the lip and the sepals and petals. It's absolutely stunning. A must have !!!! Now I've got to look for it:biggrin:

quiltingwacko 06-27-2008 02:21 PM

Yeah. A must have is right. I couldn't stop drooling over that one. I'll have to wait for it to bloom as it is not the blooming size. I'll just keep slobbering on that picture. Orchids are like potato chips.

Leisurely 06-27-2008 05:16 PM

Must be that time of year. I have both 'Newberry' and 'Mendenhall' blooming. Newberry is a much better flower color I think.

Where can I get the 'Newberry' I've got to have it !!!!

quiltingwacko 06-27-2008 09:51 PM

Carter & Holmes have them in two sizes.

Roly0217 06-27-2008 11:25 PM

I had to have it so I did.... It's a Blooming Size plant and should be here next week. Yay:biggrin: :D

quiltingwacko 06-28-2008 01:05 AM

Well Roly, Yours will be blooming before mine will. I ordered the little one. Such a stunner! So you send us a picture when that beauty pops a bloom. :photo: Of course, while I was there and paying shipping anyway, I ordered one of those bare root collections. Woo hoo!

CoolPhrog 06-28-2008 09:45 AM

Roly and Quiltingwako, When we went to Carter and Holmes a couple of months ago, Owen Holmes showed us the parent plants for this one in the stock greenhouse....MAN!!! You wouldn't believe the size of them!!!

It's a really cool place! I'm excited for both of you...PLEASE make sure we get to see the pictures!!!

quiltingwacko 06-28-2008 10:59 AM

Oh I'll be sure to take pictures. Since mine will be so small, I am sure that will be some time from now. I'll wipe the drool off the blossom and snap a shot off. Oh orchids are so dangerous. I just gaze on a picture and look what happens...out comes the credit card!

LOL...there's an even higher level of insanity in existence!
Memorize your credit card number so you don't have to waste time going to get it from the other room

gmdiaz 06-28-2008 11:14 AM

OMG! I love it!

I just paid off a credit card yesterday. And already I am having to TRY to be good.

CoolPhrog 06-28-2008 11:30 AM

I know my credit card number by heart....is that a bad thing?

quiltingwacko 06-28-2008 11:31 AM

Weeeelllll, orchids are low in calories and improve the air quality in our homes. That is my story. And when they bloom you just cannot stop smiling at them!

CoolPhrog 06-28-2008 11:41 AM

I like the way you think!!!!

cb977 06-28-2008 11:51 AM

:hmm Hadn't thought of the zero-calorie factor...I like it! :cheer:

quiltergal 06-28-2008 12:29 PM

Almost better than chocolate!

CoolPhrog 06-28-2008 12:32 PM

ALMOST....but not quite....

cb977 06-28-2008 12:33 PM

:coverlaugh:

CodiMN 06-28-2008 08:02 PM

AND, they help burn calories too! It's a "work-out" (not)taking care of them! We're such health conscious visionaries!
