These PM's are really getting annoying...
 

This is the 1st one I've gotten but on all the other forums I'm on I've gotten this SAME one at least once:

We identified it on another forum as a new type of spam, and whenever you try to respond it will say 'this member has not authorized private message ability' or something like that. But this message is really getting annoying.... :yawn:
same message...............EVERY time!

Yes do report it .. if it's coming out of the OB then the person had to have registered and it can be banned .. If you have a name .. let me know so I can fix their wagon .. :biggrin: :fight
I did get that same spam but it came in my regular email today from some forum called Question_It from someone named aksanvig8861537. I didn't click on the site either .. I just deleted it .. :nod:

I've banned this "Jessie" person...ignore anything you may have gotten from them.

I also got the PM from Jessie today. I'm on several other online forums, and this was a first for me.

Yes the annoying Jessie is a bot spammer that's going around the forums now. I was sure I banned him, but that was elsewhere I guess. I've deleted all PMs sent by him. Thanks Sue for banning him/her/it. By the way, anytime anyone gets stuff like this, feel free to issue an infraction for spamming and the user will automatically get banned. A thred is then generated in the moderator forum, so it will get looked at right away too.

Me, too! Did you hear about the guy that was charged with myspace spamming, something like 230 million dollars? I guess he is a spam pro. He was charged before, and this time, he did not show up to court, so they just billed him. They can charge up to like $300 a post i think.

I got one as well. That's the first time I've ever gotten a PM from a bot!

I loved that quote "Forgive your enemies, nothing annoys them more" I will forgive Jesse repeatedly.

I got it on this froum and one of the reef forums that I belong to.

I got this same one last week. I just deleted the PM. Should have notifed moderator, but failed to do so. Considered the infraction/spam route, but as "Jessie" was listed as newbie, thought it might fall into the "enthuiastic, but unthinking" catagory who failed to follow proper protocall. It did seem odd that a newbie with zero posts would be PM'ing an individual member though.

I've had a couple newbies PM me. Only because they were computer challenged and figured out a way to contact us via PM easier than trying to find the right forum threads and not knowing to click on new thread. I have to admit, I had that same problem when I was new here. It's all good, so long as it isn't spam. :)

I had one of these, too. It was right after I had joined and I assumed, like you, it was a newbie and replied to it. No links appeared in the PM. I use a Unix operating system or a Mac for most of my correspondence with OB...well, hell, everybody. It kind of undermines the viral attempts, but not the spam. After I replied, I deleted it. Guess I should have reported it....:scratchhead:

Any member can post a thread in the News, Updates & Feedback forum under Off-Topic way down the bottom of the Forum screen. You can also contact one of the OB's Moderators through PM or Email if there is anything amiss.

I was thinking that maybe I should do a rule that you can't send PMs unless you have at least 5 posts logged on the forum. Would probably prevent bots from spamming via PMs

That's a great idea, Marty!

Then again... after the upgrade to the latest and greatest version of the forum software, we should be a bit more spam resistant. I'll do it next month, expect HELL and down time and me cursing a lot at 2am :) These things are always ugly in highly customized forum like ours.

I got this same message on this board a couple of weeks ago from someone (supposedly) in Afghanistan. I did not reply, but I didn't know what to do either.

Dorothy, I do not know if this had to do with the same or a similar issue, but I treid to contact you via PM last weekend, but could not send you neither PM nor e-mail. I've got the message you decided not to received any of them.

(I needed some info I knew you had, but could not find in the OB anymore - I found it then via google in a different forum)

Hi Dorothy, I can not send you a PM either. I can send an email, but it states you have chosen not to receive PMs. I can send PMs to everyone else, so perhaps it's something on your end????? Yup, I've tried in the past and just now after checking my end. No go.

The glitch must be on the sender's end of the deal because I never have a problem sending a PM to Dorothy. :scratchhead:

I makes no sense as I have check my Messaging and Notification area at the Edit Options screen and everything is enabled to receive Emails and PMs. I unclicked then reclicked those options and saved them.

I too went into my editing and added you as a buddy, etc. I looked throughout and I didn't see anything else that could have been done on my end. Yet, your message won't allow me to PM you. I can email you, but that is it.

Dorothy, I don't know if you also noticed that on the forum leaders page it doesn't show the option of a pm for you but it does for everyone else. I thought that was strange. :scratchhead:

Out of curiousity I tried to PM you, but it doesn't work. I clicked on your name in a thread and selected "send PM to D" and I get a message telling me that "Dorothy has chosen not to receive private messages or may not be allowed to receive private messages."
Hopefully Marty can sort it out!

I'm trying not to take this personally, but:_( when I tried to PM Dorothy, here's what she said....Dorothy has chosen not to receive private messages or may not be allowed to receive private messages. Therefore you may not send your message to him/her.:bua:

She only accepts PMs and Emails from people with 1000 posts or more :biggrin: :evil:

well, I have sent message to different people, and I think even to Dorothy (don't not for sure, as I have deleted many of the old messages). It is suddenly that I cannot... also not to Sue, and I am very sure we have exchanged some messages in the past...
