kiki-do 05-20-2008 04:16 PM

Oh Wow!!!!! I have this orchid. Mine is a seedling that was given to me a year ago. It's just starting to grow, but no signs of any spikes. That is going to be wonderful blooms. I had no idea what it would look like! Thanks for sharing your pic. :) Now I'm getting excited for mine to bloom.

 I have seen Rustic Spots before but not of this coloration .. very intense and unique!
Did it have a cultivar name on the tag? :hmm

It is a wonderful plant, it's probably my fastest growing orchid. Last year I got two inflorescences with a double bloom on each. The plant has triple in size, yet only a single bloom.

It has no detectable scent, and the tag just says BLC Rustic Spots. I bought it at Lowes, it was my first orchid.

I have a NOID phal blooming simultaneously, here's some pics with Rustic Spots in the background

Very pretty NOID!

They are both so beautiful! It's so cool that your first orchid is blooming and thriving for you. Not many of us can say that! :blushing: And your phal noid is so sweet looking. I love the blush. :)

Your blooms are gorgeous! :)

Wow! Very nice blooms. Wish I could find a Rustic Spots that looked like that. All the ones I've seen are yellow with red spots. Not that that's bad, but I just ordered Pot. Hoku Gem 'Freckles' that is yellow with red spots.

Fading color

I have two of these, Freckles and Sunspot and they both open very intensly red then with time the red overlay fades and then you see the yellow underneath. The spots or freckles stay. The flowers are long lasting the red is not.
Flowers that have been open for a differnet amount of time can be different colors. I see this a lot in hybrids with Richard Meuller in the parentage.

I also have a much larger hybrid with Richard Mueller, Tiller Meuller. These large flowers open intensely red and the fade to yellow. Here are pics of newly opened flowers and the a shot of the plant with new and old flowers.

I really like the first one you posted.

I dug thru my archive files and found a picture from last years blooming cycle, trying to remember if there was any color variation depending on the age of the bloom. On my plant, it looks like they are a bit less intense.

This is the same plant. It's strange I only got one bloom this year since the plant has 5 times the root mass and 3 times the leaf mass. The flower appears way more red/purple than last year.

Love the colour of the plant. But I won't be changing to seni-hydro anytime soon.

Thanks for sharing.
