More orchid companions in bloom
 

Hey all...here are a few more non-orchids that were peeking out in the GH this morning.

The cactus is Epiphyllum 'American Sweetheart'; the Hippeastrum is 'Red Lion' and the Brugmansia is a Charles Grimaldi cross if I remember correctly

Adam, next time you take cuttings from the Epiphyllum, I wouldn't mind having one :evil: :blushing: :biggrin: I'll buy it.

oh wowo!! i love all three!! But the red is just brilliant!

It'll be a while on this one Ross...this is the first time that this has bloomed from me--it's little more than a cutting itself...but I was very surprised at the size of the flower (and to think this is described as a mere medium sized flower...sort of makes me wonder what the ones that are supposed to be XL will end up being like...)

I absolutely loved the cactus. I have another one that has white flowers and they smell great. The plant is bigger than yours though. I'll take a pic of it when it flowers.

Thanks Wanda...I'll look forward to seeing it. I sometimes wish I lived somewhere warm year round like PR...though I think all of my Cymbids would sulk...

Hey everyone, here are a few more cacti that are just coming into bloom on the GH...enjoy!

The yellow is the common Opuntia sp. that grows throughout the midwest--I have a large one in one of my rock gardens and a couple in pots that I keep in the GH.
The red is a Trichocereus--the species name escapes me at the moment, but the flowers are quite large in proportion to the rest of the plant.
The last shot is developing buds on my Selenicereus macdonaldii (this one grows like a weed, but it's the first time it'll bloom <i hope>)

That's Opuntia humifusa Eastern Prickly Pear. I have a whole bed of it (about 10 plants) outside. It's headed to bloom now.

I posted a pic of the buds on my Selenicereus earlier in the month, well, tonight the show is beginning. No scent, but the flower more than makes up for it!

(The first couple are from this afternoon when the bud was just beginning to swell; the last few were taken just before sunset--about 8.30 or so)

They are all pretty but I prefer the Epiphyllum 'American Sweetheart'. That one is really eyecatching.
