Vanda coelestis
(Former Rhynchostylis coelestis, but placed in Vanda now)

Beautiful.

Wow, that's a great show of blooms. I didn't know that this species has been moved to the genus vanda. Are the other rhynchostylis species still in that genus, or have they been moved also?

Somehow I missed this when you first posted. Wow! That is beautiful and amazing. Nice growing!

It seems that only this one is replaced into Vanda.
Rhynchostylis retusa, gigantea are still unchanged, as fas as my information goes.

I know this is an older post but just thought I'd throw my question out to you PeterNL; How old is your Vanda coelestis? I have a small one which is steadily throwing out lots of roots and a now a new leaf and I'm just wondering how many years does it generally take to bloom.

I sure hope this question gets answered. I just love the blooms especially for their color And size.

That question cannot be answered in a vacuum.

Under the proper environment and with correct care, a plant will bloom far younger than it will if either of those two are lacking in any way.

It’s all related to the production and storage of phytochemical reserves.

Ray, thank you for your answer and link. I read the article, very interesting. Actually I think I've read every single article you have on your site. They are a tremendous help and have helped me change my growing habits for the better. I have a very small but varied collection of orchids(25+-) in a condo, all bought as young non-flowering plants (too expensive for me otherwise). I think the environment for my plants is pretty good as they are growing and blooming regularly and getting bigger each cycle. As others have mentioned Kelpak and K-Lite are not available in Canada so Cdn growers do a lot of experimentation and help each other out a lot with our home science experiments. So, saying the two variables are pretty decent, my question is: rough ballpark figure, how long will a juvenile Vanda coelestis take to bloom?

Agriculture Canada is doing a fine job of "protecting" Canadian Agriculture from fertilizers that are totally unrelated, but folks have no problem importing a bottle or two of Kelpak.

I think the prior reseller was stifled more by the cost of importation and outbound shipping cost than regulations.

Sorry..can't help, as I've never grown one.
