Figs stuffed with walnuts

Take ripe or dried figs. Slit open and stuff with a piece of walnut. Drizzle with a tiny bit of honey and sprinkle chopped fresh basil over them.

an interesting selection of flavours - I'll be giving it a try!

That sounds soooo good, Will make some of these when my fig tree does its thing next summer! That little bit of savory from the basil to accent the sweetness of the other flavors is very intriguing,

None of the topics today got me to read except this one! A delicious way for me to get more nuts in my diet but think I'll need much self control. Yum.

Fuerte Rav 04-27-2022 06:40 PM

Got some more figs ready for picking tomorrow - I'm gonna give this a try!
I forgot last week and just ate them straight off the tree (only 2 of them ).

I love figs so I will try this if we ever get figs from our Chicago Hardy fig trees (newly planted).

Roberta 04-27-2022 07:03 PM

My tree is starting to produce a few... most will be July-ish. But I am ready to try this just as soon as I get any (before the birds and green beetles do...)

Fuerte Rav 04-30-2022 06:16 PM

OK, I remembered to try this today:

3 figs, cut in half, so 6 servings. Mixed reactions!

Other half: best way he's ever had figs, more please, loved 'em.

Me: yuck, love individual ingredients but taste buds revolted at the mix, I'll go back to eating 'em straight off the tree!

Score: OH 5, Me 1

Clawhammer 04-30-2022 07:21 PM

Great looking figs FR! Send me a cutting!

Dusty Ol' Man 04-30-2022 08:35 PM

My figs rarely make it to the house from the tree.

When I have access to my mother's fig tree, most of the figs make it into the house, but they never make it into the fridge.

Figs finally ripening... tried this. Obscenely good! VERY addicting.

Clawhammer 07-21-2022 08:44 PM

I'm growing fig trees for the first time this year.. Can't wait to give this a try!

Roberta 07-21-2022 08:57 PM

As I look at them... and can't stop eating them, I realize that this is a balanced meal... there's protein in the nuts, greens and fruit, and just a bit of carbs. So I can eat without guilt.

Dusty Ol' Man 07-21-2022 09:15 PM

Mine are about gone. Good while they lasted!

Roberta 07-21-2022 09:19 PM

In a week or so my tree will be producing them faster than I can eat them, then it will be time to haul out the dehydrator... if I partially dry them I can keep them in the 'fridge, takes a couple of months to get them all eaten but that way they don't go bad.

Be careful how many you eat in a day - they are a natural laxative!:rofl:

Indeed... not as much as they will be once I start dehydrating them and snacking on the result. (Think prunes) Fiber in one's diet is a good thing!
