Propane BBQ grill recommendations with rotisserie
Heyo!
My 1990s Weber Genesis silver has finally rotted to the point of not working properly. Damn shame they don’t make a grill to last  I need to replace it but the new Weber’s in the same category are like 1700-2000 and I feel like that is four time what I paid in ‘95 So before I go vegan, does anyone have any good personal experience with a particular model? Hate a brand? I’d like to have a rotisserie because it makes for cooking two birds sooo easy. Any help? Thanks, friends! |
I'm in exactly that same boat - with a same era Genesis.
Grills have become SO expensive! I am looking at the Char-Broil Commercial Series at my local Lowes. |
Good grief! We bought a nice new Weber from Lowe's a few years ago for well under that! We use the rotisserie all the time too! I guess I'd be going vegan too.
|
The rotisserie is basically an essential now.
I have a bomb mustard rub (good mustard and good salt; cracked (not crushed) pepper corns (I like them to cook up and then fall off. If it is crushed it sticks too well in my experience) and some rosemary, right off the bush) and it is the easiest meal ever I do not want to blow the bank though. Maybe I’ll buy a Ronco lol!! |
Wait a minute! How much did you spend on orchids last year?
|
Oooh that’s a tough one. I have a quicken category
And it that orchids or the orchid hobby? Lol ---------- Post added at 10:33 PM ---------- Previous post was at 09:39 PM ---------- So including the lath house 2100. Without 1520.... What are you trying to say here, Dolly? That a device I cook on and use to feed my family MIGHT be worth a bigger investment than flowers??? Lol |
Just sayin' priorities...
|
A decent grill IS a priority! In addition to giving you some new cooking capabilities, it keeps the heat out of the house - a real bonus if you live where the a/c runs constantly.
|
We don't like gas or electric grills. Hardwood charcoal is the only way to go. Not that it's helpful... just had to chime in.
|
so i went with the Weber...i was about to buy the Broil King Commercial and found the last years Weber Summit 4 series for sale from a TV store at $100 more than the Broil King- They took paypal so if it was a scam, id have my $ back in 30 days and it was almost %50 off so i took the chance.

Do you have wind? Set up a windmill, some belts, reducing gears and pulleys to drive a rotisserie over a fire. Probably not as involved as splitting and drilling a lava rock.
|
Are you paying the airfare for this trip?

Beware what you promise! I can eat and especially drink a LOT! Another question... once I get there, can I stay for a week or two?
|
as long as you like.....:)
|
Cool! Can we catch anoles and iguanas and flamingos? Pleeeease... And maybe a really tiny alligator?
|
yes, yes, no, and only if in season mmmmmmm
|
just a no money endorsement here
i am about 2-300 hours into this grill and it is doing awesome!!!! i am getting stupid good at spinning these birds over the spit https://live.staticflickr.com/65535/...0de30a79_c.jpgUntitled by J Solo, on Flickr ---------- Post added at 02:34 PM ---------- Previous post was at 02:32 PM ---------- oh, it is the summit, not the genesis this time...maybe i'll switch back in 25 years! Weber Summit S-470 |
I don't have a 'posh' BBQ but a local brand, does the job very well. Best thing I ever cooked on it was a very large turkey (not on the rotisserie!) after we had an electric power cut one Christmas Day. It worked so well it has become the standard now and it leaves the house oven with lots of room for all the other stuff like roast potatoes and parsnips.
Your chicken looks scrumptious! Our local large store had Weber grills for the first time this year - they look amazing - but so large and expensive! |
I bet that is amazing!
You also get to not heat up the kitchen so much with extra oven duty I fry my turkeys now…but that’s a different thread ;) One of the best things for me about a big grill is the ability to have staggered heat zones. This is a four burner, they run front to back, and so I can go from 100 degree offset smoking to 1250 degree char depending on the need I have a separate smoker and a metal barrel for charcoal cooking when needed The most fun for me is the extra time outside. Lol. If my grill were in a hut or in a kitchen I would be much less motivated to use it. |
I remember when I was really young, lived at grandma’s, she had a “summer kitchen.” A wood stove underneath an arbor that consisted of pipes, top was two bed springs mattress things, and grape vines crawling everywhere. It is still one of my favorite memories… life was so simple and good.
|
that sounds about perfect
i have realized that while i will not be self sufficient, likely in this lifetime, i can still make my life as homestead-y as possible to fit my reality. i very much like the vibe i get of this outdoor kitchen i have my bbq outside, for always, smoker in the patio, but i also have the fit pit which is outfitted with a decent (not decent) cooking setup....one day i will channel your grandma and make it really decent :) the one thing i have going for me is reclaimed bricks!!! my neighborhood was built in the late 70s...my neighbor did a bunch of renovating years back and had all the bricks that they dug up from the old fill and foundation. many have marks and names and a lot have years in them 1918 and the like.....so when ruthie burns a hot dog (the best) it is really a century old connection to the past |
LOL... I 've been collecting reclaimed bricks for decades. Go figure. Same recent find... daughter's house had a bunch of old brick piled in a corner from a carriage house. I've been laying a sidewalk along the side of my house for years, and now enough brick to finish. It's a slow process, as the old knees just can't take it for long.
I'm hoping 100 years from now someone will walk that sidewalk and have appreciation for all the different styles and history under their feet. Burnt hotdogs are the best! |

My little area of swampy suburbia is being increasingly invaded these days….
|
Sooner or later, ya stay or start a new game. ;)
|
I am slooooowly making my house more self sufficient. Little ways but adding them up. I am still buying compost but way less, I still use hose water but way less, and we still buy our groceries but a little bit less lol
Eventually I will have to leave it less :) |

Better stick to that Key West and points in southern US for now Dusty. Pretty darned cold trip on a bike across the midwest right now. Brrrrrrr!! Sounds like a late spring/early summer road trip for the rest of that jaunt!
