Angraecum urschianum

This Angraecum certainly qualifies as "mini" . The flower is about 1 cm (3/8 inch), the leaves maybe 2 cm. The spur is huge compared to the plant and flower - a bit over 7 cm (3 inches). I'll take some better pictures if it opens a bit more, it just opened today. But I wanted to grab some in case it decides to exit... first time blooming.

I grow it outside, so it has experienced the chill of two winters. It grows shady and damp - definitely gets watered every day.

Very nice!! That has always been one of my favorite Angraecums, a bit too high-maintenance for me at the moment though unfortunately.

Very nice foliage, reminds me of a little succulent. Flowers are a bonus.

DirtyCoconuts 05-02-2020 09:32 AM

i agree with Dolly, so lovely and then the treat of the bloom

OrchidSue 05-04-2020 11:28 PM

That is really beautiful. I really like the foliage as well as the flower. :bowing

Thanks, everyone. Now that the flower has matured a bit, the spur straightened out making it easier to measure. So we have a 3/8 inch ( 1 cm) flower, with 1/2 inch (1.25 cm) leaves, with a 4 inch (10 cm) spur.

I disagree Roberta. That doesn't qualify as a 'mini' at all. It is a micro. Incredibly nice!

Wow, urschianum is my dream. It's brilliant orchid! My congratulation!
I wait one from Japan, but it died on way to me. Now I wait while begin delivery from Germany, I wait form Popow.

Thanks! This species will be really happy in your "garden"! Popow has excellent plants - I am certain that what you get from him will be healthy (Whenever he can ship... it may still be a long wait. Longer for me, he only ships to the US when he is here for a show, and when will shows happen again??)

Yes, Popow will come in Moscow in October, for show.

I show a photo of Angraecum urschianum in comparison with other mini-orchids, so the scale of greatness will be clearer: D

DirtyCoconuts 07-30-2021 11:02 AM

wow, that is samll

a separate question, it appears like there is a lot of decayed moss on the outside of the moss ball? is that accurate? is that something to be concerned about that or is that by design?

WaterWitchin 07-30-2021 11:11 AM

Isn't that algae DC?

Akhenaten 07-30-2021 10:47 PM

DirtyCoconuts, Angraecum urschianum grows in very humid places where 2000 mm of rain falls a year. You only get 1,500 mm of rain a year in South Florida. Dried algae on a moss substrate only confirms that it needs a moist content. While trying to contain both my Angraecum aloifolium.

Roberta, please tell me how long your Angraecum urschianum blooms?

Roberta 03-31-2022 12:01 PM

Hmmm.. I don't remember exactly. It didn't bloom last year. Growing, looks healthy, but no flowers. :( I recall that the flower lasted several weeks (rather good for an Angraecum)

Akhenaten 03-31-2022 12:26 PM

Thank you, so much! Several week very good time :)
