Renanthera citrina
Locally called the Lemon Yellow Renanthera
Plants are found growing on mossy trees in the coniferous forest of Vietnam and China. Plant blooms in the spring with a long branching spike with several flowers (there are 16 flowers in my spike). I have this on S/H on a drilled glass vase ever since I got this as a 7 inches potted plant 2 years ago. It is now 18 inches with a 9 inches spike. Very slow to grow but gave me new long fat robust roots now getting used to be under the water level and have welded itself in the clay pellets that it is hard to detach them when I flush the glass. In the summer months of its active growth; this is outdoors in direct sun and I fill the glass every other week but spray water on the surface of the media and the whole plant twice a day especially if it’s very hot outside….in winter when it is indoors on a south facing window, I still continue to mist the surface because there are aerial roots. I flush it once a month for debris and plant wastes. I feed it with K-lite fertilizer and seaweed mix. I waited so long for this orchid plant to bloom for me even if the flowers have no scent. I am hoping to get more flowers on the next blooming cycle. https://farm3.staticflickr.com/2811/...312a4149e8.jpg https://farm8.staticflickr.com/7400/...75ee150d5c.jpg https://farm4.staticflickr.com/3785/...9a3fa5d026.jpg https://farm4.staticflickr.com/3785/...9a3fa5d026.jpg https://farm3.staticflickr.com/2844/...1c8d74ae19.jpg |
I hate seeing a plant like that for the first time, because I don't have space to over winter it :( Nice job though!

*don't hate....this is not rare but it is hard to find....when you see one like this grab it and you can hang it on your window in the winter months....this doesn't need bright light, it grows on shady trees in the wild....I just give it direct sun in the summer because I can. |
Nice spots! Can't say that I've ever seen one like this anywhere.

You must hold the flower in your hand, and experience that it is silky yet very delicate. ---------- Post added at 12:47 AM ---------- Previous post was at 12:46 AM ---------- Quote:

This can really grow tall but I would rather cut it in half when they reach four feet because of the delicate slender stem. I did not stake the flowers but I had to stake the whole plant. ---------- Post added at 12:51 AM ---------- Previous post was at 12:49 AM ---------- Quote:
Right, if you have a chance to get one of these grab it. It is really something you would want in your collection. |
Fabulous!
