Where? I don't see a katydid. Oh, look! I think that's it, there's a bit of green poking out from underneath that fuzzy looking ro -- OH MY F'IN GOD THAT'S A SPIDER!!!!11!!!1!!!!!11!!

Just kidding. I'm not particularly frightened of spiders, but sometimes it seems like the majority of people I know are. Yours looks nice ... is that one of the ones that likes to flick its butt fur at you?

TOMMYMIAMI 08-30-2013 05:47 PM

love the orchid - or at least I guess that's the green stuff under, but I would die if that spider ever touched me:-))) I was swimming with anything you can imagine, had snake around my neck, but spiders of this size scares me to death!:-)

Awesome spider!

No-Pro-mwa 08-30-2013 09:36 PM

Sorry not a fan of spiders but then I don't think much of katydids either. Although we mostly have grasshoppers. I once had infestation of Black Widows.......now that's not fun................ I take it back I like the jumping spiders they are the only ones that get to live in my house so they can help me with bugs on my plants,

But what I do love is that orchid in your avatar......what is it ???????

Like pretty much all of the New World Ts, she does have the capability of flicking urticating hairs but like majority of her species, Grammostola rosea (Chilean rose hair), she is mellow to the extreme. She has never flicked in the 15+ years I've had her.

Actually the katydid was quite lovely.

I've owned those in the past too. Beautiful creatures (and such excellent bug exterminators).

Yea, all the guys I grew up with (who are (& were) like brothers to me) are terrified of spiders.... That's why I'm not scared of spiders  heheheh I might have been slightly cruel to them (the brothers, not the spiders) Lol

I like spiders... I'd rather not find a brown recluse in my house, but I don't ever kill spiders in my home, I take them outside (unless my cat gets them first :()... But I've never had them as pets... Tho, I've definitely had some wierd pets. Lol. I had no idea that spiders (of any kind) could live for 15 (!) years! Wow, that's really cool!! Have u had her since u were a kid, or have u gotten into them as an adult? (I know, wierd question, but I'm curious lol).

...Have to say, the coolest spider I've ever seen was in the Amazon rainforest (in Equador) it was some type of tarantula, it had this purple/blue iridescence on its back, it was so pretty! (I'd really love to know what kind it was...) Then it jumped off the post it was on (we were standing on a porch) and my brother literally jumped up into my arms, lol he used me as a shield (I'm thinking shiveralry is definitely dead!! Lol, he also tells me "Ladies first" so that I will walk thru spider webs first, so he doesn't have to... but he's still a foot taller than me, so... :coverlaugh: heheh, he still gets what's coming to him! Lol) In spite of this, I do still love my brother very very much ;)

Edit: sorry for the novel :blushing:

Cute!
I don't have them as pets in containers but I was pretty fond of one that lived under my kitchen windowsill who wrapped up ants! I moved it out this spring (it tried to return) as one of the kids discovered it.
We don't kill spiders here, either. I put them outside.
I really love the orb web spiders but I don't find them or their webs very often.

Always been into "critters" but only ones kept as a kid were the wild ones outdoors. Mom would have never allowed me to keep them in the house.

Most likely some species of Avicularia ("pink toe").
