Overjoyed and dissapointed...

I got deliveries from two Swedish vendors today, one was expected, the other came as a very pleasant surprise.

The ones that made me overjoyed were the two Paphs, one hainanense and one Maudiae Vinicolor 'Schwartze Madonna'. :blushing: They both had some mechanical damage on some of their leaves, but nothing much really. Their roots were in excellent shape, and despite the hainanense having three fans and the "black Madonna" only one, the leafspan on the hainanense is still smaller than on the black Madonna.

Here you have the new guys, first out is my Paph. Maudiae Vinicolor 'Schwartze Madonna':

Next is my Paph. hainanense:

The HUGE let down though, was the Phal. stuartiana. Since the one I ordered from Schwerter upped and died over there, I ordered a new one from one of the Swedish vendors. I payed full price, 44.60USD or 34EUR, for this stuartiana and had expected something a bit bigger than what I got. What I got was a plant with three short leaves, of which one has some sort of strange spots, and three healthy roots. It had six roots, but three of those were either dead or dying so I cut them off. I feel that this was a heck load of money for nothing much at all really and I'm ponderin about whether I should demand part of the money back or not. I hope it'll survive anyway...

And here's Mr let down, the Phal. stuartiana:

The spots on one of the leaves:

Wow, that hainanense is perfect size for me.

That is really sad about the Phal though. I contact the vendor on that one for sure.

Paph. hainanense is smaller than most maudiae type paphs in general, no problem there. Nice little plant.

I wouldn't have been happy with the phal...

Phal stuartiana is a very small plant. I've had one for 3 years, and it finally bloomed. It only has 3 leaves. It's grown very slowly for me.

I wouldn't be happy about the Phal either, you should contact the vendor.
I don't think I would have dropped 35€ on plant so far from blooming, you can get some much more cheapily elsewhere. (a dutch grower has some only a year from blooming for 14€)

I would contact the grower

I have now contacted the vendor and demanded half of the money back. To be honest, I don't know if I would even pay that much for a Phal that in my book looks more like a rescuing project than anything else.

It's really cute, isn't it? And I noticed today that it probably has FOUR fans instead of three as I thought yesterday. I discovered a teeny weeny fan with three leaves at the base of one of the "larger" fans. I can't thank Bud enough for posting pictures of his Paph. hainanense, otherwise I wouldn't have this little darling here now. :blushing:

I would contact the vendor too. That's a lot of money for that little thing. I'm sorry you got a plant like that. :(( It sucks cause you get so excited for your new plants and then they finally come after what seems like forever then you open the box and see that. What a let down! It would of been different if you knew what you were buying and it was a good price! Let us know what the vendor says if you decide to call them.

At least your Paphs are healthy!:)

Looks like you posted while I was writing my post! I'm glad you contacted the grower. I hope they make it right for you.

I forgot to say, this guy HAS bloomed. It has been a larger plant since there were remnants of older leaves, and newer ones (seems like these had been trimmed away before it was shipped) left. I also found the remnants of an old spike. This was no young Phal that was sent to me, but an old one (check the length of the stem for example).

Yup! :D

I hope so too. It seems I'm not meant to have a Phal. stuartiana, the one I ordered from Schwerter died (it was the last one they had) and this seems to be the last this vendor had too since they have removed it from the website after I purchased mine.

Talk about bad luck!
