Miltoniopsis
2 Attachment(s)
This has got to be an all time favorite orchid of mine - the fragrance FILLS the room!!! Kinda persnickity to grow - it loves steady moisture and humidity. This is the first of 7 different kinds I have - but only 4 of which are old enough to bloom. The others have buds !!!
Again, this was a freebie - and no tag. But I wait for it each year    |
Beautiful flowers on that!
I'd be most grateful if you'd share with me some of your culture on growing your Miltoniopsis. I have one thats just huge but it refuses to bloom. It's in it's growth stage again and I already see at least 7-10 new growths pushing out again. However this will be the 4th year it's denied me any flowers :scratchhead: What am I doing wrong? Any help would be so welcome! |
Beautiful one there:)

It is beautiful! Congrats.

Hi DJ - culture? whats that???  mine grow where I put them or they don't stay long...no time for wimps.
I think the ticket is cool conditions. Mine endure 55-75 degrees in the window with lights to give it at least 12 hrs. a day. Perhaps a more seasoned grower could elaborate on culture needed? |
This time of year is always exciting for Miltoniopsis growers. I have about 100 plants of various sizes, and most (all?) bloom on schedule after the bulbs mature. For my greenhouse that means blooms from March to June, then intermitently into the fall.
Like Sarah says, they appreciate temperatures between 55-80F, and they bloom much better in cooler temperatures. The early spring bloomers stay in bloom longer than those in warmer temperatures. The key to growing these, in my opinion, is annual repotting in the autumn. Along with moist conditions, a bit of fertilizer, good air movement and avoiding warm temperatures, there should be no problem at all. They are really easy to grow, you just have to understand their needs. Miltoniopsis are one of the most beautiful orchids when bloomed well, and fill the greenhouse with their sweet fragrance. |
Beautiful  Love the color.
Wish I could smell it ... Gin |
That's really beautiful!

Hi Jane,
No, no tag :_( A couple of years ago I rescued 3 Milts that were headed for the dumpster - When they bloomed the next year I fell head over heels for them and have recently aquired 4 more ( with TAGS this time ) but most are probably still too small to bloom this year. I would love to see yours when they bloom! |
