Oh, so that's what I've got. Mine was in bloom when it was goven to me, and I didn't know the type. It wasn't blooming as well as yours, though. I'm just entranced by the color of the flowers -- maybe a little more greenish than yellow, or...

Hi, I have a question/comment:
I was under the impression that Den. Fancy Yellow is a nobile type (Yamamoto hybrid) and if you look it up on RHS, that also seems to be the case (both parents are nobile types, at least according to google). The plant pictured above is clearly not a nobile type hybrid, maybe antelope and/or phal type ancestry (it has beautiful flowers though!!!!!!). If anyone can confirm this, I'd love to know, as I have a Den. Fancy Yellow that is most def. a nobile hybrid. I'm just wondering, is it possible your tag is incorrect? Just curious because I have a plant with the same hybrid name. |
Thanks Orkie for the information. This plant was imported from Thailand or Malaysia and supplied to me by the nursery. The plant had this name tag on it. Could you put up the pictures of your flowering Den so we could compare the difference. Can some one knowledgeable help in this regard.

My plant isn't in flower, so I can't post it in flower, but here are 2 pics of it's parents, which, as far as the flowers position/shape/color and cane type go, are the same (mine looks just like Okayama gold)
http://www.njorchids.org/meetings/Ev...ma-Gold-wf.gif and the other is Den. Santana, which is about halfway down the page here ??????????????????????????? Ihatov Iwate World Orchid Show 2005 Dendrobium Being a nobile type, it blooms directly off the canes with 2-3 flowers per node, like the parents of this hybrid and is also yellow. It does not make a long spike with many flowers from near the top of the plant (the way a phal or antelope type does, the twisty petals on yours indicate it may have antelope ancestry). Since these are the parents for the registered hybrid and are nobile types, it appears the nursery your's came from cannot use the name Fancy Yellow, since it's already in use and registered. The grower may have planned to use the name Fancy Yellow and had not yet regsitered the hybrid, or may not have planned to. Just wanted to let you know, as giving your plant nobile type care would probably not be good for it! Someone with orchidwiz would be able to give the actual breakdown on ancestry without having to trace back using RHS, which takes forever for some hybrids! Either way your plant is beautiful! |
