Hi!

My name is Daria, I'm from Kharkiv, Ukraine, but in 2022 I moved to Barcelona because of the war. Just like many others, I got into plants during covid pandemic - I actually was going to buy just 2-3 low-effort plants, but very quickly found myself an owner of 20+ pots.

Unfortunately, all of my Ukrainian plants died, because we left in a hurry and I couldn't take them with me, and there was nobody to care for them.

But I already have a pretty big collection here - about half are rescued plants, among them a couple of Phals and one Oncidium (most probably).

I'm autistic, a psychotherapist, and an artist. I dream about having a big terrace, or, even better, a garden, because I want to grow roses, raspberries, and apple and cherry trees.

I'm living with my dog (also rescued one), his name is Thor.

Welcome, Daria.

I'm so sorry you had to leave home.

(I am Ukrainian on my mother's side.)

Welcome. I’m pleased to see your passion for plants survives what you have been through.

Thank you! Honestly, I consider myself lucky - I'm alive, all of my close ones are alive, and nobody's even wounded. Not many Ukrainians have this nowadays :(

Actually, it was a huge help! Plants are awesome teachers when it comes to acceptance and patience, and it's always helpful to keep your hand busy

He's a good dog for sure! I had to give him his own pot with soil, because he loves to dig, and he was very passionate about participating in repotting

Probably he also dreams about having a garden - at least he dutifully practices digging large holes for planting trees every time we go to the dog park

Welcome to the Orchid Board, Daria. That is a lovely plant collection you have, and a very handsome dog! My plants and my dogs have often gotten me through tough times, but of course I've never had to deal with what you've been through. I'm glad you found us, hope to see you around here on a regular basis. :)

My dogs enjoy gardening, too. They find the orchids fun to chew and shred and, when the plants are indoors, they like to knock over the pots and drag the dirt all over the floor. The little unripe oranges and lemons that grow on my citrus trees are fun for the dogs to pick and roll around. I dare not keep any plants that might be toxic to the dogs. We have a yard that is full of holes which we fill regularly. I am very happy that my dogs share my interests. :)
