Dendrobium Super Nestor in sphagnum moss
Question Dendrobium Super Nestor in sphagnum moss

Help, my new orchids are Dendrobium Super Nestor and they are potted in a solid mass of sphagnum moss. They are not in flower and some leaves are turning yellow. I expect that the leaves turning is okay but the roots look slightly yellow and I am afraid the try and remove the sphagnum mass. Will I hurt the roots? Should I just re-pot as is? Sorry I'll have to post pictures, later. I just wanted to get this posted asap so I can get those orchids re-potted and happy.
Thanks

Hold off on repotting until an expert chimes in. Some Dendrobium do much better if repotted when roots are actively growing. This is also a deciduous Dendrobium so the leaf loss may be normal.

I thought so about the leaves. I have several other dendrobiums but they haven't lost any leaves, yet.

I think this one also likes a cool dry winter to initate flowering. Until an expert chimes in, I’d probably try to keep it cool and the moss barely damp and hold off on the repot. Depending on you conditions, moss may not be a bad substrate since these like a lot of water when in active growth.
