Default Can you repot Phals while there’s still blooms?

Noticed some mold (im assuming) which looks like white fuzz on the roots near top of the moss. I bought some imperial mix and I’m ready but I am not sure if I need to disinfect the roots first.

You can repot phals anytime you want. They are not picky.

The only risk is accidently breaking off some of the blooms. It's always good practice to repot (in bloom or not) if there are concerns about root health or media quality.

What are you planning to disinfect the roots with?

That may be more damaging than the repotting process itself.

Good question. I was thinking of hydrogen peroxide. But I still need to do research. Is there anything in particular you use?

No. I don't bother.

If it is dead, I remove it. If it's not, I don't.

If there is mold on the roots, remove all the medium and just return the orchid to the pot without medium for a few days. The fresh air circulating about the roots and the roots drying completely between watering should get rid of the mold.

Cool. I’ll try removing the medium and getting rid of fuzzy roots with clean scissors and let it air dry then after a few days put in the imperial mix. Thanks all.

Don't cut. Just let them dry out.
